Specifically, Ms. Adams showed students a diagram that assigned President Donald Trump's “Make America Great Again” (MAGA) slogan to a list of examples of disguised white supremacy.

The incident became public after a student at Indiana University filed a complaint with US Senator Jim Banks, a staunch ally of former President Donald Trump. Senator Banks then contacted the school's leadership directly.
The controversial chart above, an illustration widely seen in the US, shows a pyramid with examples of behaviors and statements that could be considered overt or covert white supremacy.
Senator Jim Banks' intervention has led the Indiana University School of Social Work to suspend professor Jessica Adams from her course on “Diversity, Human Rights , and Social Justice.”
Speaking to reporters, Professor Adams said the purpose of the chart had been misunderstood. Ms. Adams, a full-time lecturer in social work, is still teaching three other classes while awaiting the results of an investigation. The investigation will determine whether she faces further disciplinary action or whether her suspension will be revoked.
In an interview with the New York Times, Ms. Adams expressed concern that her job could be at risk. However, she insisted that she would continue to speak publicly on the subject because “I feel it is an important issue that needs to be discussed.”
According to the professor, no student came directly to her to complain about the chart or lecture content, and the student who notified Senator Banks did not file a formal complaint with the university. Instead, the Dean of the Indiana University School of Social Work made the complaint, according to Adams.
The complaint against Ms. Adams was filed under a new state law passed by Indiana last year that requires intellectual diversity in public educational institutions. The law defines intellectual diversity as “a rich, varied, and diverse range of scholarly perspectives on a broad range of public policy issues.”
The law requires institutions to evaluate instructors on whether they foster a culture of open inquiry and free expression, expose students to diverse viewpoints, and avoid talking about personal opinions unrelated to the course.
