Ms. Ngo Thi Phuong Lan (born in 1974) is currently the Principal of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Ho Chi Minh City. Ms. Lan is from Tan An commune, Can Duoc district, Long An province. She graduated from the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Ho Chi Minh City, with a degree in Oriental Studies, majoring in Southeast Asian Studies, in 1997.

In 2002, Ms. Lan graduated with a master's degree in anthropology, majoring in socio-cultural anthropology from the University of Toronto, Canada. 10 years later, she was awarded a doctorate in history, majoring in ethnology, from the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Ho Chi Minh City, with the topic "Risk reduction behavior and the use of social capital of Vietnamese farmers in the Mekong Delta in the process of transitioning from rice cultivation to shrimp farming".

In 2018, Ms. Lan was recognized as meeting the standards for the title of Associate Professor, majoring in Ethnology.

In her work, Ms. Lan has held positions from teaching assistant, Oriental Department to lecturer and deputy head of the Faculty of Anthropology, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Ho Chi Minh City. From 2012 to 2018, she was the vice principal of this school. Notably, in 2018, Ms. Ngo Thi Phuong Lan was appointed principal of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Ho Chi Minh City, at the age of 44, and was reappointed to this position in 2023.

In scientific research, the female principal has completed many topics and tasks, and received many awards. She has guided 2 doctoral students to successfully defend their theses, 19 master's students, and completed 9 scientific research topics from the Ho Chi Minh City National University, school, and ministry levels. She has also published 53 scientific articles, including 5 in prestigious international journals. In addition, Ms. Lan has 13 published books.
