Female student overcomes shyness to win Vietnam Science and Technology Award

Hoang Thi Quynh Nga, University of Commerce, one of 20 outstanding students nationwide, has just received the "Vietnam Female Science and Technology Student" award 2023.

Quynh Nga is a third-year student at the Faculty of Economic Information Systems and E-commerce, University of Commerce.

This is an award for female students with outstanding academic and research achievements in certain specific fields of science and technology.

From a shy girl to a spectacular "turnaround"

Nga said she was born into a farming family in Kien Xuong, Thai Binh . During her time in secondary school, she competed and won the district's excellent student award in Mathematics.

When I was in high school, I suddenly became withdrawn, shy, introverted and lacking in confidence.

"When I went to university, I told myself I had to overcome myself and not be shy like a cold grain of rice anymore. From then on, I started participating in group activities," Nga recalls.

It is known that in the 2021-2022 school year, at the University of Commerce, Quynh Nga won a scholarship to encourage learning and achieved the title of 5 good students at the school level.

I have an article published in the proceedings of the international scientific conference "The 2nd International Student Research Conference on Economics and Business" (SR- ICYREB 2023), co-organized by the University of Commerce with many major universities in the country.

In 2023, Quynh Nga won the Encouragement Prize of the 8th Econometrics and Applications Olympiad with the scientific research topic "Enhancing the efficiency of supply chain management using Blockchain technology on the Shopee.vn e-commerce platform according to the SEM model", jointly organized by the Central Committee of the Vietnam Student Association, the Academy of Finance and the Institute of Mathematics.

In the same year, he won the second prize in the DEFENSE TRIAL 2023 contest with the topic "Application of SEM model to evaluate the effectiveness of supply chain management using BlockChain technology: Research on Shopee.vn platform", organized by the Research Economic Students Community (RCES), University of Economics, Vietnam National University, Hanoi.

I am also an officer of the Student Union of the Faculty of Economic Information Systems and E-Commerce, University of Commerce; Secretary of the Youth Union of K57SD2, Faculty of Economic Information Systems and E-Commerce of the school.

Don't let yourself compromise

Nga shared that at the beginning of her second year, when she started doing scientific research, she was confused and didn't know where to start.

When submitting the topic "Enhancing the efficiency of supply chain management using Blockchain technology on the Shopee.vn e-commerce platform according to the SEM model" by Nga as the group leader and 3 colleagues, the students were criticized by the instructor and edited sloppily.

"We felt sad and disappointed because this was our first project. We did not compromise but set a goal to complete it, no matter how difficult it was, we could not back down.

In 2023, the group was overwhelmed with joy because this scientific research won the encouragement prize at the 8th Econometrics and Applied Olympiad.

This award is a premise, urging me to "fight" other awards. Also in 2023, my colleagues and I won second prize in the DEFENSE TRIAL 2023 competition," Nga said.

In August 2023, based on her achievements in studying and scientific research, Nga boldly applied for the "Vietnam Female Science and Technology Student" award in 2023 and was honored to be one of 20 outstanding students nationwide to receive this award.

Nga said that going from being very shy to participating in a series of activities and achieving good results in her studies often made her tired. However, the student immediately regained her balance and changed her study methods to be more effective.

For example, in general subjects, I listen to the teacher's lectures and take notes of the main ideas that the teacher notes. At the end of the semester, I make an outline for that subject and read additional materials.

In specialized subjects, I listen carefully to lectures and practice a lot to understand the problems deeply, dividing the weight appropriately between theory and exercises.

Sharing about her future plans, Nga said that although she really likes studying, she plans to go to work right after graduation to share the burden with her family.

Evaluating this topic, Dr. Nguyen Thi Hoi, Deputy Head of the Faculty of Economic Information Systems and E-commerce, University of Commerce, said that the project is a combination of technology into the e-commerce system.

The topic touches on the new and very popular fields today: e-commerce and supply chain management. At the same time, after completing the project, students will have both research subjects and customers.

Nga was the group leader, the person who planned, built, and framed the article. Initially, the students' research was not perfect, but after the rounds of competition, being completed and supplemented with surveys, rerunning the model to give new parameters, the students completed quite well.

Commenting on Quynh Nga, Dr. Hoi said that she taught this student the subject "information system analysis and design". This is a comprehensive course, with a lot of knowledge related to information technology, and is an important course. In studying, Nga is diligent and creative.

"Nga is the secretary of the Youth Union so she enthusiastically participates in many related activities. Her weakness is that she lacks flexibility when presenting in front of a crowd, but in return, she has many ideas when organizing activities for her friends.

The "Vietnam Female Science and Technology Students" Award, formerly known as the "Award for Outstanding Female Students in the Field of Information Technology", was founded and organized annually by the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union in coordination with the Ministry of Science and Technology, starting in 1997.

The award aims to honor female students with outstanding academic and research achievements in a number of specific fields of science and technology, contributing to training a source of quality female science and technology staff to participate in the country's development.
