Jolenthe Daniels volunteers to cheer at the marathon and walk 20km
During the days when the marathon and 20km walk events of the 32nd SEA Games saw people fainting like flies, people saw a slim blonde girl continuously standing at the border near the finish line, despite the hot sun, cheering for the Vietnamese athletes.
Jolenthe Daniels (22 years old) is a sports student at the University of Belgium Howest (Belgium). In her final year of university, the beautiful and ambitious young girl signed up to go to Cambodia to become a volunteer.
In Siem Reap, Jolenthe Daniels has been teaching at a center called Anjali House for more than two months. She is expected to return home in nearly three weeks to complete her course.
Author and special fan of Vietnam athletics team
She shared: "Students in Siem Reap usually only study in the morning or afternoon. Anjali House was created so that they can come and learn more knowledge, instead of staying at home or indulging in unhealthy temptations.
I teach sports and give lessons on healthy living at Anjali House. I happened to meet the Vietnamese athletics team when they stayed opposite my place. My first impression was that the Vietnamese athletes were very friendly and approachable.
As a student and sports teacher, I have been informed about the 32nd SEA Games held in Cambodia, including Siem Reap. The Vietnamese athletes kindly invited me to cheer for the race, and of course, I was very happy to accept because I wanted to cheer for Vietnamese athletics."
Jolenthe Daniels congratulates Hoang Nguyen Thanh on his silver medal
Despite the sweltering heat that made many people want to hide in their homes and turn on the air conditioner, Jolenthe Daniels stood bareheaded all day at the finish line, asking questions and cheering for Vietnamese athletes such as Le Thi Tuyet, Nguyen Thi Ninh, Hoang Nguyen Thanh, Trinh Quoc Luong...
Jolenthe Daniels said she was very happy to receive the invitation to visit and travel to Vietnam from the members of the Vietnamese athletics team. She was very happy when Vietnamese athletes won medals at the 32nd SEA Games such as Thanh Phuc, Nguyen Thanh, Thanh Ngung...
"I have planned to go home to visit and finish my thesis, so I probably won't be able to visit Vietnam right away. But I hope that one day soon I will have the opportunity to visit Vietnam, because I have heard a lot about the beauty of your country and people for a long time," Jolenthe Daniels shared.
