STO - Beekeeping for honey is considered by experts to be a model that brings high economic efficiency. Realizing that this is a potential model suitable for household conditions, in recent years, Mr. Nguyen Minh Tung, Truong Khanh commune, Long Phu district (Soc Trang) has continuously expanded the number of beekeeping boxes for honey and transferred beekeeping technology to many households and beekeeping facilities in and outside the province. In particular, the honey products produced by Mr. Tung have achieved 3-star OCOP certification, thanks to the organic farming process.

Starting his beekeeping business and establishing Ong Xanh Limited Liability Company specializing in organic honey production in 2017, Mr. Nguyen Minh Tung experienced many initial difficulties. To have a number of up to 700 - 800 hives, a honey processing area with full equipment, Mr. Tung chose the right way to raise bees for honey, following the market demand of producing honey in an organic direction, ensuring food hygiene and safety.

Visiting the organic beekeeping area of Mr. Minh Tung, we saw the difference between traditional beekeeping and organic beekeeping. Organic beekeeping boxes are stacked on top of each other in many layers, while traditional beekeeping boxes are kept separately with only 1 box. According to Mr. Minh Tung, right at the beginning of the model, he had time to experiment with organic beekeeping for about 1 year. When the experiment was successful, he boldly established a company, the total number of beekeeping boxes when he was first raised was 150 boxes. In 2017, Mr. Minh Tung brought his honey products to participate in the creative startup idea contest and the typical youth startup model of Soc Trang province, the honey products he produced won second prize. When winning the prize, the honey products became known to many customers and the amount of honey supplied to the market at that time was about 60 liters/month.

To increase honey production each year, Mr. Minh Tung continues to expand the number of bee colonies raised for honey, in order to meet market demand. In 2019, Mr. Tung's organic honey production achieved the 3-star OCOP certification at the provincial level, with honey products such as: longan flower honey, longan wax honey, honey bear honey. After the honey product achieved the OCOP star certification, the honey consumption market was expanded, increasing honey sales by 30%. In addition to the number of bee colonies raised at the farm, Mr. Minh Tung also cooperated to purchase honey from 2 other beekeeping facilities (also raised organically). Currently, the amount of honey at Mr. Minh Tung's company supplies the market from 4 - 5 tons of honey/month, the average honey price is 100,000 - 640,000 VND/liter (depending on the type), bringing in hundreds of millions of VND/year in profit.

Comrade Lieu Nghia Tin - Deputy Director of Soc Trang Agricultural Extension Center said that the organic beekeeping model of Mr. Nguyen Minh Tung has created safe and quality honey products for consumers. Especially with the organic beekeeping process, it ensures that young bees are not affected at the time of honey harvest, because the honey making tanks and the bee breeding tanks are separated into different tanks. Raising bees according to the above process not only ensures the yield and quality of honey, but also develops more bee colonies during the raising process. Through the organic beekeeping model of Mr. Nguyen Minh Tung, the unit will propagate and replicate the beekeeping model to households in localities in the province.

Mr. Nguyen Minh Tung's organic beekeeping model is quite suitable in rural areas. If the household has a large enough orchard, it can develop beekeeping at home. Because beekeeping is easy to care for, does not cost food but the profit is good, contributing to increasing household income.
