Entering the opening match of the men's football group stage of the 19th ASIAD, the Vietnamese Olympic team faced off against the Mongolian Olympic team. Compared to Vietnam, the Mongolian Olympic team was rated much lower. They had suffered heavy defeats against Laos and Indonesia.
