On the morning of January 3, Saigon University announced a resolution to establish the Institute of Socio-Economic Research. The former Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee is the Chairman of the Institute's Scientific Council.

The Institute for Socio-Economic Research was established on the basis of reorganizing the Institute of Environmental and Energy Technology of Saigon University, while adding functions and tasks of socio-economic research, data science and artificial intelligence.

The Institute of Socio-Economic Research is a scientific and technological organization with legal status, its own seal and account, operating under a financial autonomy mechanism. The Institute will carry out many activities related to research, consulting and training.

Associate Professor, Dr. Le Chi Lan, Vice Rector of Saigon University, holds the position of Director. The Academy's Scientific Council consists of 9 members, of which Dr. Nguyen Thanh Phong - former Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, is Chairman of the Academy's Scientific Council.

Speaking at the founding ceremony, Associate Professor Dr. Pham Hoang Quan said that with the potential of a team of excellent researchers and cooperation from relevant parties, the Institute of Socio-Economic Research of Saigon University will create breakthrough research and applications of practical value in all aspects of life.

Regarding the institute's development goals in the coming time, Associate Professor Quan emphasized: "I really hope that the institute will soon become the core in multidisciplinary and multi-field research and application development, actively contributing to raising the position of Saigon University, helping to make the school a research-oriented university and meeting international standards."

Also at the ceremony announcing the establishment resolution, the institute signed a memorandum of understanding with eight units to establish an ecosystem closely linking theory and practice, solving urgent socio-economic issues of Vietnam in the digital age.
