According to the People's Committee of Vinh Gia commune, Vinh Gia Primary and Secondary Boarding School was formed on the basis of merging two existing schools: Luong An Tra Primary School B and Luong An Tra Secondary School.

In the 2025-2026 school year, the total number of students at two levels is 1,069 (of which, 45 are ethnic minority students, 32 are poor or near-poor students) divided into 31 classes.

The project is implemented in the form of new construction combined with renovation and upgrading, with a total estimated investment cost of 186,740 billion VND. The school has 45 classes, expected to meet the learning needs of 1,500 students.

Talking to reporters, Mr. Pham Thanh Binh, Principal of Luong An Tra Secondary School (Vinh Gia Commune) excitedly said that the groundbreaking ceremony for the Vinh Gia Primary - Secondary Boarding School has brought great hope and motivation to the staff, teachers and students.

In Vinh Gia commune, there are currently 9 border schools, with a total of 3,061 students.

Mr. Binh also shared about the difficulties in the past time. Especially located in the border area, the old school's physical facilities were still lacking.

Due to the large area and limited transportation conditions, many students have to stay at cafes near the school to rest at noon and continue studying in the afternoon. Many teachers and staff come from other places to work, some even 100km away, and have to rent accommodation, affecting their daily lives.

“Teachers and students are very happy to hear that they will soon have a new, spacious and fully equipped boarding school. This will help teachers and students travel conveniently, feel secure in their work and study, and contribute to improving the quality of education,” Mr. Binh said enthusiastically.

The school principal said that the project is a concrete step to properly implement the Party and State's policies on education development in border areas and ethnic minority areas; thereby, ensuring fairness in access to knowledge for students in remote areas.

At the same time, the boarding school model will contribute to improving the quality of comprehensive education, helping students to study and practice in a more favorable environment. This is also an ideal place to discover and nurture talented students in disadvantaged areas, gradually creating a high-quality human resource for the locality and the country.

In particular, Vinh Gia Primary and Secondary Boarding School was honored to be chosen as the central bridge to organize the groundbreaking ceremony on November 9, with the participation and direction of Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son, along with leaders of the Ministry of Education and Training and related ministries and branches.

Apply special investment mechanism

According to statistics from the People's Committee of Vinh Gia Commune ( An Giang ), the commune currently has 9 border schools with a total of 3,061 students and 232 teachers (as of September 30, 2025). The local teaching staff has a high sense of responsibility and rich experience in educating students in difficult and border areas.

However, the education system here is facing many challenges.

Specifically, the facilities are scattered and lacking, the schools have many separate locations scattered in hamlets, far from the center. Many schools lack functional rooms, boarding areas and do not have enough teaching equipment, especially equipment serving the 2018 General Education Program and information technology.

Social resources are still very limited, schools mainly rely on the State budget. Although the local people have a spirit of learning, due to difficult economic conditions, they cannot contribute much to educational facilities.

Therefore, parents and local authorities agree and want to have a boarding school on site so that students do not have to travel far, helping to stabilize their studies and daily life.

It is expected that when Vinh Gia Inter-level Boarding School comes into operation, the good learning environment and high expertise will attract students from all over the country (the scale will increase by 20-30%), aiming to reach a scale of 1,500 students by 2030.

An Giang Provincial People's Committee issued Decision No. 1650 dated October 23, 2025 on applying special public investment mechanism to 3 school construction projects in border communes.

The province has directed the Departments and Branches to urgently deploy and strive for these 3 schools to start construction in 2025 and be completed and put into use before August 30, 2026.

In the 2025 - 2026 period, An Giang will build 3 schools in 3 border communes (total estimated capital of about 388,794 billion VND), including:

Vinh Gia Primary - Secondary Boarding School (Vinh Gia commune) has an investment scale of 45 classrooms; a total of 1,500 students, about 600 boarding students.

Giang Thanh Primary - Secondary Boarding School (Giang Thanh commune) has an investment scale of 30 classes; a total of 1,000 students, about 430 boarding students.

Khanh An Primary and Secondary Boarding School (Khanh Binh Commune) has an investment scale of 45 classrooms; a total of 1,500 students, about 96 boarding students.
