Kyiv Independent quoted a source familiar with the decision on July 10 as saying that for the first time since returning to power in January 2025, US President Donald Trump will approve sending weapons to Ukraine under the Presidential Withdrawal Authority (PDA) mechanism, a power frequently used by his predecessor.
The move marks a potential shift in the Trump administration's approach to supporting Ukraine in its conflict with Russia.

"President Trump's team will identify weapons from the US stockpile to send to Ukraine. This aid package could be worth about $300 million," the source revealed.
Earlier this week, President Trump announced that the United States would send additional weapons to Ukraine to help defend against Russia’s growing advances. While the specific types of weapons have not been decided, sources said the aid package could include Patriot defense missiles and medium-range offensive missiles.
However, the Pentagon and the White House did not immediately comment on the matter.

So far, the Trump administration's military aid to Ukraine has included only weapons approved by former President Joe Biden.
Ukraine’s most urgent priority weapons include Patriot interceptor missiles and GMLRS mobile rocket artillery – both of which could be included in the new military aid package. Since US arsenals are based in Europe, these weapons could be deployed to the front lines within days of approval.
It is known that Presidential Withdrawal Authority (PDA) allows the US President to directly transfer weapons from the country's military stockpile in case of emergency.
