OpenAI is releasing a new feature that allows customers to use their own data to customize the company's most powerful AI model, GPT-4o.

Currently, startups are fiercely competing in the enterprise AI product segment, while businesses face the challenge of finding profitability from AI.
The customization capabilities of AI models include generating additional information about specific task types or subject areas. For example, a skateboard manufacturing company could fine-tune its GPT-4o AI model to create a chatbot capable of answering questions about wheels or skateboard maintenance procedures.
OpenAI has never made this new feature available for the GPT-4o or its predecessor, the GPT-4. However, the company has allowed users to customize many other AI models, such as the GPT-4o mini (a more compact and cheaper version of the GPT-4o).
The product director of OpenAI API stated that providing the ability to customize AI models will allow customers to work directly with the company instead of using intermediaries or inferior products.
"We have focused heavily on lowering barriers for customers," the leader said.
However, it's worth noting that to fine-tune the model, customers must upload their data to OpenAI's servers, and the training process will take approximately 1-2 hours.
Currently, OpenAI only offers customers the ability to self-train using text data; it has not yet expanded to image data or other types of content.
