Demolition of the Shark Jaws building in 3 months

On the afternoon of May 16, the People's Committee of Hoan Kiem District informed about the demolition of building No. 1-3-5 Dinh Tien Hoang (Shark Jaw Building). Accordingly, with the permission of Hanoi City, the People's Committee of Hoan Kiem District has studied the plan to renovate and embellish Dong Kinh - Nghia Thuc Square in the areas of Hang Trong, Hang Gai, Hang Bac and Ly Thai To wards. This is the connecting point of two heritage urban areas including Hoan Kiem Lake - Ngoc Son Temple in the South (special national relic) and the Old Quarter in the North (national relic).

The renovation and embellishment of Dong Kinh Nghia Thuc Square, including the demolition of building No. 1-3-5 Dinh Tien Hoang, was implemented first. In the past time, Hoan Kiem District has coordinated with the City's Departments and branches to research and develop a plan and report to the City for approval of the investment policy in 2 phases.

Demolition of the Shark Jaws building is expected to begin in May.

Phase 1, including 5 contents: Demolition of the Commercial Center building No. 1-3-5 Dinh Tien Hoang; Relocation of the existing transformer station inside the 1st floor of the building No. 1-3-5 Dinh Tien Hoang of Hoan Kiem Electricity Company on Cau Go street. Renovation of Hapro building (No. 7-9 Dinh Tien Hoang). Renovation of canopies, awnings, signs, facades of buildings around the square on Dinh Tien Hoang street, Cau Go street, and the beginning of Hang Dao street; Renovation of Thuy Ta restaurant.

Along with that is the reorganization of traffic on Dinh Tien Hoang Street. Limiting motor vehicles, promoting space after dismantling the project No. 1-3-5 Dinh Tien Hoang and connecting Dinh Tien Hoang Street to deploy into a public space associated with supporting services for tourism in the Capital.

The above contents will be implemented in May 2025 and completed in August 2025.

Phase 2 includes: Researching solutions for developing underground space in the square; Continuing to renovate the first layer of houses on the street around the square; Overall renovation of technical infrastructure to match the activities of Hoan Kiem Lake as a special national monument; Supplementing urban equipment suitable for the functional activities of the area.

Hoan Kiem District People's Committee said that the district is coordinating with the city's departments and branches to urgently complete procedures according to legal regulations.
