The Shark's Jaw building will be demolished in 3 months.

The Hoan Kiem District People's Committee will begin demolishing the commercial center building at 1-3-5 Dinh Tien Hoang (the "Shark's Mouth" building) in May and expects to complete it in August.

On the afternoon of May 16th, the Hoan Kiem District People's Committee announced the demolition of the building at 1-3-5 Dinh Tien Hoang Street (the "Shark's Jaw" building). Accordingly, with the permission of Hanoi City, the Hoan Kiem District People's Committee has studied a plan to renovate and beautify the Dong Kinh - Nghia Thuc Square in the Hang Trong, Hang Gai, Hang Bac, and Ly Thai To wards. This square connects two heritage urban areas: Hoan Kiem Lake and Ngoc Son Temple in the south (a special national monument) and the Old Quarter in the north (a national monument).

The renovation and upgrading of Dong Kinh Nghia Thuc Square, including the demolition of the building at 1-3-5 Dinh Tien Hoang Street, was implemented first. Over the past period, Hoan Kiem District has coordinated with relevant departments and agencies of the city to research and develop a plan, and reported to the city for approval of the investment policy in two phases.

The Shark's Mouth building is expected to begin demolition in May.

Phase 1 includes 5 items: Demolition of the Commercial Center building at 1-3-5 Dinh Tien Hoang; Relocation of the existing transformer station inside the first floor of the building at 1-3-5 Dinh Tien Hoang belonging to Hoan Kiem Power Company on Cau Go Street; Renovation of the Hapro building (7-9 Dinh Tien Hoang); Renovation of awnings, canopies, signs, and facades of buildings around the square along Dinh Tien Hoang Street, Cau Go Street, and the beginning of Hang Dao Street; Renovation of Thuy Ta restaurant.

In addition, traffic on Dinh Tien Hoang Street will be reorganized. Motorized vehicles will be restricted, the space after the demolition of buildings 1-3-5 Dinh Tien Hoang will be utilized, and the Dinh Tien Hoang street will be connected to develop into a public space with supporting services for tourism in the capital.

These activities will be implemented in May 2025 and completed in August 2025.

Phase 2 includes: Researching solutions for developing the underground space of the square; Continuing the renovation of the first layer of buildings on the street surrounding the square; Comprehensively improving the technical infrastructure to match the activities of Hoan Kiem Lake as a special national historical site; Adding urban equipment suitable for the functions of the area.

The Hoan Kiem District People's Committee stated that the district is coordinating with relevant departments and agencies of the city to urgently complete the procedures in accordance with the law.
