On the morning of October 24, goalkeeper Nguyen Filip was taken to the hospital by doctors from the Hanoi Police Club to be examined for injuries. As a result, Nguyen Filip suffered a groin injury and will need at least 8 weeks of rest to recover.
Nguyen Filip suffered an injury during the preparation for the match between Hanoi Police Club and Macarthur in the group stage of AFC Champions League Two 2025 - 2026. Two days before the match (taking place on the evening of October 23), Filip was in pain, but still tried to play.
As a result, in the 72nd minute of the match, head coach Alexandre Polking had to substitute him off. This was the first time since returning to Vietnam in 2023 that Nguyen Filip had been substituted during a match.
Due to a groin injury, Nguyen Filip will certainly not be able to join the Vietnamese national team during the FIFA Days in November if called up by coach Kim Sang Sik. The team will play an away match against Laos on November 18th in the second leg of the third round of the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers.
Previously, Nguyen Filip was not called up to the national team for the two recent matches against Nepal. Dang Van Lam and Tran Trung Kien were the goalkeepers given the opportunity to start.
Nguyen Filip was born in 1992, is a Vietnamese expatriate in the Czech Republic, returned to Vietnam and joined the national team in 2023.
He was the starting goalkeeper under coach Philippe Troussier and in some matches under coach Kim Sang Sik, but later lost his position to goalkeeper Nguyen Dinh Trieu and now to Dang Van Lam.
Filip's strengths are his physique and footwork. His weakness is his ability to communicate in Vietnamese, which he has yet to overcome.
