“Don’t ask about the passion of the 6X, 7X generations…”, singer Dinh Lan Huong, former member of Sao Mai band, lecturer of Vocal Music Department, Hanoi College of Arts, emotionally shared about the moment standing on stage singing One Moment in Time at the 2025 Capital Alumni Gala.
Together with more than 100 artists of the 7X and even 6X generations such as People's Artist Thanh Lam, musician Quoc Trung, singers Bang Kieu, Thuy Dung, Thanh Tam, Thao Van, Lien Trinh, ABBA Vietnam group and bands Phuong Dong, Thoi Gian, Ngua Hoang, Chia Khoa Vang, Purple Blues..., the female singer revived the memories of an entire generation performing with enthusiasm. The successive melodies resounded like a train of memories, bringing former students of the Capital back to the most beautiful years of their lives, when they were full of vitality, studying and loving passionately.

Dinh Lan Huong shared that this was the second time she attended the Capital Alumni Gala. "In season 1, I participated with the Sao Mai group, along with Huong Ly, Xuan Nhi, Phuong Hien... and the Hoa Sua band. Ngai Tho , Chiec La and Doi Mat were the gifts we gave to the audience that season," the female singer expressed.
Returning this time, the former member of Sao Mai band brought the song One Moment in Time by Whitney Houston. Dinh Lan Huong said that Whitney Houston was her idol. One Moment in Time is also the song that accompanied her youth with Sao Mai band in the 1990s. This song helped Dinh Lan Huong's voice to flourish and she won first prize in the light music category of the 1995 Hanoi Voice Contest.
“Back then, I was studying Russian, so the songs I wanted to sing had to be transcribed in pidgin. At that time, I could only listen to cassette tapes and rewind the songs of my idols," the singer recalled.
Exactly 30 years later, Dinh Lan Huong was able to relive the wonderful happy moments on stage this time. “I feel like memories are flooding back because Sao Mai and I had memories of practicing this song together in a house on Hue Street with a small Nammon speaker. We only left 1-2 colored lights on the speaker and were all excited during practice... This time, the band of the Organizing Committee accompanied me with 3 members of Sao Mai: drummer Vu Quoc Binh, keyboardist Ha Son Hai, guitarist Quoc Long, so the joy was multiplied,” the female singer expressed.

Despite being sick, having a fever, and having to take fever-reducing medicine right before going on stage, Dinh Lan Huong still performed her wonderful singing voice. In the schoolyard, former model and actress Hoang Xuan kept praising the singer's powerful voice. Sharing about this moment, Dinh Lan Huong said that singing in the rain made her feel both nervous and emotional, adding gratitude when the audience still crowded in the rain to watch and sing along".
“Those feelings give us strength. I am happy to meet my colleagues on stage again. I am especially proud that the participating artists include many famous people from Hanoi College of Arts, the cradle of light music at that time that gave birth to famous artists,” Dinh Lan Huong expressed.

The singer confided that she was lucky to be born into an artistic environment. Her father is director Dinh Trong Dung, who used to work at the Vietnam Puppetry Theater, and her mother is the late Meritorious Artist Thuy Lan, a famous singer of the Voice of Vietnam . Music has been in Dinh Lan Huong's blood since she was a child.
Possessing a beautiful and powerful voice, Dinh Lan Huong won many music awards such as: First prize in the Hanoi Voice Contest 1995; Gold medal in the Voice Contest of professional schools nationwide in 1996 and 1998...
Although her family wanted her to become a lecturer rather than a singer, after graduating from Hanoi College of Arts, Dinh Lan Huong wanted to try her hand at many different roles. She became a singer at the Hanoi Youth Theater.

It was not until 2006 that Dinh Lan Huong decided to officially become a lecturer at Hanoi College of Art and is currently Deputy Head of the School's Vocal Music Department.
As a vocal instructor, Dinh Lan Huong has trained and guided many excellent students. Her students have won many awards at competitions such as Hanoi Voice, Sao Mai, National Young Music Talent, The Voice Kids, Familiar Faces Kids, etc.
