Response to the 10,000 VND fee for using toilets in the Old Quarter

(Dan Tri) - Mister Loo Company was allowed to rent the house at 149 Tran Phu, Hoi An ward, Da Nang city to open a public restroom and listed the price at 10,000 VND/person/time at the cashier counter.

On August 21, the People's Committee of Hoi An Ward, Da Nang City responded to citizens' opinions on the city's feedback portal about collecting sanitation fees in the old town.

According to the report, on August 13, this person bought a ticket to visit Hoi An ancient town for 120,000 VND, but when using the Mister Loo restroom on Bach Dang street, he was charged 10,000 VND.

Upon receiving the feedback, Hoi An Ward People's Committee directed the Department of Culture and Social Affairs to send officers to inspect the incident.

According to Hoi An Ward People's Committee, Mister Loo Company was leased house 149 Tran Phu (back of Bach Dang Street) by Hoi An City People's Committee (old) to open a public restroom, with a contract from April 1, 2019 to April 1, 2025 (6 years).

In the report dated March 13 of the Department of Economics - Infrastructure and Urban Affairs on advising the People's Committee of Hoi An City (old) to allow Mister Loo Company to extend the contract for another year.

Currently, the company continues to operate the above toilet and has a price list of 10,000 VND/person/time at the cashier counter.

Hoi An Ward People's Committee has directed the Department of Economics - Infrastructure and Urban Areas to invite representatives of Mister Loo Company to work on previous agreements with the People's Committee of Hoi An City (old), consider continuing to exploit the above toilet and request the company to properly implement the committed contents.

According to many sources, the above toilet is designed with many convenient and clean facilities. Regarding the service price, there have been some controversial opinions, saying that most of the tourists are from other provinces, the fee of 10,000 VND is really a bit high.

However, there are also people who agree, saying that this toilet is privately built to serve personal needs in a polite, civilized and clean manner, so charging such a fee is not unreasonable.
