Launching the Campaign to Support the Cuban People on the 65th Anniversary of Establishing Diplomatic Relations

The program aims to mobilize resources to support the Cuban people in terms of medical supplies, necessities and sustainable development cooperation areas, contributing to helping the Cuban people overcome difficulties caused by the pandemic, natural disasters and blockade and embargo policies.

The program is also a meaningful humanitarian activity, demonstrating the loyalty, attachment and international solidarity of the Vietnamese people for the Cuban people; an opportunity to express gratitude for the noble gestures that Cuba has given to Vietnam during difficult years.

Referring to the difficulties of Cuba in recent times, speaking at the launching ceremony, Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Do Van Chien emphasized that the organization of the Campaign Program has profound humanitarian significance. This is an action demonstrating the tradition of humanity of the Vietnamese people; a vivid demonstration of the loyal, pure, and close-knit relationship between the two peoples of Vietnam and Cuba.

“With that meaning, the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front has agreed to let the Central Committee of the Vietnam Red Cross Society preside over and coordinate with economic organizations, socio-political organizations, and people's organizations to mobilize the strength of national solidarity, calling on all walks of life of the Vietnamese people to provide material and spiritual support to the Cuban people. Calling on all levels, sectors, member organizations of the Front, the business community, individuals in the country and foreigners living and doing business in Vietnam to take practical actions to help our friends overcome difficulties, stabilize their lives, and continue to develop the country along the socialist path that the Cuban Party and people have chosen,” said Comrade Do Van Chien.

Vice President and General Secretary of the Vietnam Red Cross Society Nguyen Hai Anh said that on December 2, 1960, Cuba was the first country in the Western Hemisphere to establish diplomatic relations with Vietnam. Over the past 65 years, the two countries have stood side by side in the struggle for national independence and freedom, and in the cause of building and defending the socialist Fatherland in each country.

The traditional solidarity, special friendship, comprehensive cooperation and special trust between the Party, State and People of Vietnam and Cuba have been constantly nurtured and comprehensively developed, becoming a great source of encouragement, valuable support and effective service to the revolutionary cause in each country.

The Vietnam-Cuba Joint Statement issued in September 2024 agreed to identify 2025 as the Vietnam-Cuba Friendship Year; affirmed the determination to bring the special relationship between the two countries to a new height, developing more comprehensively, substantially, effectively and sustainably; reaffirmed Vietnam's solidarity and steadfast support for efforts to overcome the difficulties and challenges that Cuba is experiencing.

Over the past 65 years, the Vietnam-Cuba relationship has always been an exemplary symbol of international solidarity, loyalty and steadfastness. From the immortal words of Leader Fidel Castro “For Vietnam, Cuba is willing to sacrifice its own blood” to concrete acts of sharing in peacetime, the two countries have always stood shoulder to shoulder for a common goal.

“The campaign will be held for 65 days, starting from today – August 13, the 99th birthday of leader Fidel Castro – until October 16, 2025, with the goal of mobilizing at least 65 billion VND to support the Cuban people with food, necessities and sustainable humanitarian activities. This is not only a humanitarian campaign, but also a strong message to international friends that: Vietnam is always by Cuba's side, as Cuba is always by Vietnam's side”, Mr. Nguyen Hai Anh emphasized.

According to Mr. Nguyen Hai Anh, during the 65 days of the Program, organizations, individuals, people and organizations can participate by supporting funds in many forms: Donating among cadres, members, union members, workers at agencies, organizations, schools and residential communities; mobilizing support from domestic and foreign businesses and organizations; receiving contributions through many direct and online channels at the Central Association office, scanning QR codes for transfers, donation boxes in public places, mobile applications (Charity App, Viettel Money), the website of the Vietnam Red Cross Society; organizing creative emulation movements in schools such as: Writing letters, donating "small plans" to support Cuban children...

All contributions will be received, transparently managed by the Vietnam Red Cross Central Committee and delivered to the Cuban people in 2025.

At the launching ceremony, the leaders of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Red Cross Society called on departments, ministries, branches, socio-political organizations, people's organizations, provinces, cities, agencies, units, enterprises, all cadres, civil servants, public employees, officers, soldiers, workers, students, and compatriots at home and abroad to actively respond to and support the Program, contributing to further enhancing the image of a loyal, affectionate, steadfast, sharing and benevolent Vietnam; international organizations, diplomatic agencies, the business community and international friends in Vietnam to enthusiastically respond, join hands, and contribute to strongly spreading the message "Vietnam - Cuba: Forever side by side in challenges - Sharing in hardships" and "Vietnam is always there".

Mr. Nguyen Hai Anh also requested the Red Cross Associations of provinces and cities to proactively advise local Party committees and authorities on plans to respond to the Program; widely launch and mobilize the participation of agencies, units, businesses, schools, armed forces and people in the area. Each locality needs to develop appropriate goals and targets for mobilization, synchronously deploy forms of propaganda and mobilization to contribute to completing and exceeding the common goals of the whole country.
