
On the morning of October 28, Duc Tho Forest Protection Department coordinated with the police and authorities of Duc Thinh commune to receive two mountain tortoises (Manouria impressa) weighing about 3 kg.
It is known that these two turtles were discovered in the grounds of Dai An Temple (Duc Thinh Commune) on the afternoon of October 27. Immediately after the discovery, the Dai An Temple Management Board reported to the local authorities and Duc Tho Forest Protection Department to coordinate handling. Through inspection, the health of the two turtles was normal, agile and uninjured.
After receiving the above wild animals, the rangers handed them over to Vu Quang National Park for continued care, protection and release into the natural environment according to regulations.

The impressa tortoise (Manouria impressa) is a rare species of tortoise, belonging to the family Testudinidae. This species lives mainly in tropical moist forests and high mountain forests in Southeast Asia such as Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, Vietnam...
The mountain tortoise is classified in group IIB - an endangered, precious, rare species that needs to be strictly protected according to regulations of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment ; at the same time, it is on the list of threatened animals of the International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources (IUCN, 2000) and belongs to the VU category (vulnerable) in the Vietnam Red Book.
