AsiaOne reported on May 1 that the Vietnamese woman was identified as Dang Hoang Ly Na, a single mother who had just arrived in Singapore to work a week ago.
Funeral director Roland Tay told Shin Min Daily News that Ms. Dang came from a small village in Vietnam.
It is known that Ms. Dang is separated from her husband and has an 11-year-old daughter. The woman is the only child in the family and Ms. Dang's parents are both over 70 years old.

Despite having lung problems, Ms. Dang still went to Singapore to work at a night entertainment establishment to support her family.
Roland Tay said they had arranged to bring Ms Dang's body back to Vietnam for free. "I decided to help because her daughter was still young. I told Dang's family not to worry about the cost. I would help bring her body back to the village for free."
Roland Tay added that Ms. Dang's family members arrived in Singapore on April 29 to receive their daughter's body.
Responding to AsiaOne, Singapore police said they were alerted to an unnatural death at around 11:15 a.m. on April 26. They then found Ms. Dang's body and pulled it out of the water.
Police are still investigating the woman's death.
