Detected and handled 602 cases of smuggling and trade fraud

DTO - In the first 6 months of 2023, the authorities discovered and handled 602 cases, prosecuted 4 cases/4 subjects for the crime of trading in prohibited goods such as smuggled cigarettes and manufacturing counterfeit goods.

According to the report of the Provincial People's Committee, in the first 6 months of 2023, the authorities detected and handled 602 cases of smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeit goods, of which 332 cases were fined, with a total amount of more than 3 billion VND; the value of the violated exhibits was nearly 7.3 billion VND; more than 203,600 packs of cigarettes were seized (down 36% over the same period); 4 cases/4 subjects were prosecuted for the crime of trading in prohibited goods, smuggled cigarettes, and manufacturing counterfeit goods; more than 161,000 packs of smuggled cigarettes and counterfeit cigarettes were destroyed (phase 1 of 2023).

According to the assessment, cases of smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeit goods decreased sharply (down 22.6% compared to the same period). In particular, smuggled cigarettes and sugar decreased significantly compared to the same period in 2022, the number of cigarette seizures decreased by 49.6%, the number of cigarettes seized decreased by 36% and the number of sugar seized decreased by 21.5%.

The situation of production and trading of counterfeit goods, infringement of intellectual property rights, and poor quality goods in the province is still continuing, with most goods produced in other localities and brought to the province for consumption. In the first 6 months of 2023, the authorities have inspected and discovered 9 cases, the main items being fake fertilizers and shoes with counterfeit trademarks of famous brands protected in Vietnam such as: Hermès, Burberry, Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Nike.

In the first 6 months of the year, the authorities inspected 75 food safety-related businesses in the province, detected and handled 6 violations, imposed fines totaling VND89,500 million, confiscated goods worth VND5,375,000, and forced the destruction of goods worth VND15,330,000. In addition, the authorities also strictly inspected and controlled the transportation of unquarantined livestock and poultry in the province, and no violations were detected during inspection.

According to the assessment, in the last 6 months of 2023, the prices of many consumer goods may increase slightly due to the impact of increasing electricity prices, unstable gasoline and oil prices. The situation of transporting, trading in banned goods, smuggled goods, trade fraud and manufacturing and trading in counterfeit goods continues to occur and there is a possibility of new and more sophisticated acts, methods and tricks appearing. In order to effectively combat and prevent the transportation, trading in banned goods, smuggled goods, trade fraud and counterfeit goods in the last 6 months of 2023, the Provincial People's Committee directs functional forces to continue implementing Resolution No. 41/NQ-CP dated June 9, 2015 of the Government on promoting the fight against smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeit goods in the new situation; strengthen the work of grasping the situation of transporting, trading in banned goods, smuggled goods on the border and in the domestic market; Focus on handling violations related to petroleum, fertilizers, alcohol, beer, sugar, cigarettes, cosmetics and other goods. At the same time, launch peak periods to focus on handling complex and large-scale networks and groups, preventing hot spots of smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeit goods in the province; closely monitor market price developments, regularly inspect and control compliance with the law on price listing, business registration, labeling of goods, measurement, quality, counterfeit goods, goods infringing intellectual property rights, focusing on petroleum, fertilizers, cosmetics, animal feed, food and some other essential goods serving the people's daily life and production needs; Improve the effectiveness of propaganda,education , and mobilization of people not to participate in or assist in smuggling, actively denounce crimes, and propagate laws on preventing and combating smuggling, trade fraud, and counterfeit goods to organizations and individuals in production and business so that they know and properly comply with the provisions of the law.
