With the guidance and nurturing of Party committees at all levels, young doctors confidently commit themselves, contributing to improving the effectiveness of medical treatment, and actively participating in community activities. Through challenges and training, young doctors become more steadfast and mature on the path to joining the Party.
The young, dynamic and creative medical staff has made an important contribution to the development of the city's health sector. In recent times, party organizations in each unit have focused on leading, accompanying and training young doctors, not only to be good at their expertise and profession but also to be ethical, dedicating themselves to the noble mission of protecting and caring for people's health.

The recent birthday of Uncle Ho was an important milestone for Dr. Tran Duc Huy, Can Tho City Obstetrics Hospital, when he became an official party member. Dr. Huy emotionally shared: “This is not only my pride but also my family’s. That pride is associated with the dual responsibility of a young physician and party member, who must both strive in his profession and maintain his moral qualities and political courage.”
The Obstetrics Department is where pregnant women get sick during pregnancy and face many risks. Therefore, Dr. Huy and his colleagues always accompany and encourage pregnant women to give birth with peace of mind. Dr. Huy recalls that 5 years ago, when he first started his career, he was still confused. His colleagues wholeheartedly guided and helped him learn a lot of knowledge and practical experience. Ms. Le Thi Hong Quyen, Deputy Secretary of the Obstetrics Department Party Cell, said that Dr. Huy is good at his profession, attentive to patients and very enthusiastic in movement activities.
After leaving the lecture hall, young doctors still have to study very hard. Dr. Tran Hoai An, Department of Nephrology - Urology, Can Tho General Hospital, still remembers the first day of work. After examining and listening to the patient describe the symptoms and condition of the disease, when the patient asked the doctor back, "What disease do I have?", the young doctor hesitated. Dr. An confided: "That memory urged me to be determined to learn, from colleagues, patients and books. Every colleague is a teacher; and the patient is the greatest teacher."
In addition, Dr. An also proactively took many courses in professional training, communication skills, foreign languages, etc. During his work, seeing the suffering of kidney failure patients, further motivated the young doctor to become a good doctor. Dr. An said: “Kidney failure patients are very pessimistic, feeling that they are a burden to their relatives and family. Therefore, when approaching patients, doctors must be a support for the patients.”
These peaceful days are thanks to the great sacrifices of the medical staff, including young doctors. When the COVID-19 epidemic broke out, Dr. Bui Thanh Buu, from the Emergency Department of Can Tho General Hospital, volunteered to go to the epicenter, participating in the fight against the epidemic at Binh Thuy Field Hospital. Unfortunately, during that time, Dr. Buu's mother fell ill and passed away. Dr. Buu only had a short time to be with his mother at the end of her life. Overcoming the pain of losing his mother, Dr. Buu worked side by side with his colleagues to treat and care for COVID-19 patients. After the epidemic passed, returning to the Emergency Department, Dr. Buu and his team were busy in their shifts, saving the lives of many patients on the brink of death.
Dr. Buu shared: “The prerequisites in emergency treatment are to ensure the safety of the patient's life. Therefore, during the working process, doctors must constantly learn; before difficult cases, doctors must diligently update their knowledge from books, colleagues, and consult experts." In August 2022, Dr. Buu became an official party member. With the responsibility as a physician and young party member, Dr. Buu reminded himself to be an exemplary party member, build a trustworthy image for patients, and create trust for young colleagues who want to join the Party.
According to Mr. Ho Truyen Thong, Standing Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of the Civil Affairs Bloc of Can Tho City, during the harsh period of fighting the COVID-19 epidemic, the medical staff in general, including young doctors, have upheld medical ethics and a spirit of dedication to the community.
Fostering passion, forging character

Nearly 80% of patients treated at the Hematology - Blood Transfusion Hospital of Can Tho City come from provinces in the region. The hospital is also responsible for supplying blood to nearly 80 hospitals. The strong development of the hospital over the past 10 years has had a great contribution from the team of young doctors and party members. According to Dr. Nguyen Xuan Viet, Party Committee Secretary, the hospital identifies human resources as the core factor, prioritizing young people with capacity and good moral qualities. The Party Committee pays attention to organizing the Youth Union, and the structure of the Youth Union Secretary in the Party Executive Committee. The Youth Union Secretary is also a member of the Executive Committee of the Youth Union of the Civil Affairs Bloc of the Can Tho City Party Committee. The hospital leaders strongly support and create conditions for the hospital's grassroots Youth Union to operate well and smoothly. From there, the Youth Union and Party Committee branches train young people to strive and practice. Dr. Viet said: “There is no distinction between young people on contract or on the payroll. Any individual with enthusiasm and dedication will be considered for admission. Therefore, the Party development work of the hospital is extremely fast, strong and of high quality.”
Not only city-level units, grassroots health care also cares about nurturing young forces. Dr. Le Minh Bach, Party Secretary of O Mon District General Hospital, said that from the beginning of the term, there has been a plan to nurture and create a source of inheritance. For many years, the hospital has been leading the grassroots health care sector in terms of professional capacity, responding to medical treatment for local people and neighboring areas. The hospital receives from 1,100 to 1,200 patients per day; on peak days, more than 1,500 patients. The hospital deploys many advanced techniques, applying endoscopic surgery in treatment. According to Dr. Bach, the team of young doctors is very important to the development of the hospital.
The team of doctors and party members at health stations contribute the most to primary health care in the community. Trung Hung Commune Health Station, Co Do District has 9 party members out of a total of 11 staff. Dr. Nguyen Van Hai, Head of the station, Party Cell Secretary, said that the majority of the staff at the station are young people, all of whom have been with the station for more than 5 years, wholeheartedly serving patients. The station leaders closely monitor the thoughts and feelings of the medical staff. Doctor Le Van Len, Trung Hung Health Station, shared: “After 5 years working at the station, many patients have become familiar with me. Although I live in Thanh Loc commune, 10km from the station, I travel back and forth twice a day, but because the people here still need me, I continue to stay. I hope to go to school to improve my qualifications in the future to better serve the people.”
In addition to their professional work, young doctors also contribute greatly to social welfare activities. Every year, the Youth Union of Can Tho Children's Hospital organizes more than 10 medical examinations and provides free medicine to children in the Mekong Delta. In addition, the hospital's team of more than 200 members also participates in many other movements such as voluntary blood donation, environmental sanitation, sports and arts, etc.
On the occasion of honoring exemplary young doctors following Uncle Ho's teachings in 2023, 11 young doctors at medical units in Can Tho City were honored. According to Mr. Ho Truyen Thong, Standing Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of the Civil Affairs Bloc of Can Tho City, the majority of cadres and party members always uphold the spirit of responsibility, strive to study and practice, worthy of the title of party members. These are shining examples for young doctors to follow, thereby striving to follow the Party, contributing to serving the Fatherland and the people.
The Party Committee of the Civil Service Bloc of Can Tho City has 89 affiliated Party grassroots organizations, with more than 6,300 Party members. The Health Sector alone currently has 18 Party cells with more than 1,900 Party members. From 2020 to May 2023, 461 new Party members were admitted from the Health Sector.
