Developing community tourism in Nam Giang: Choosing the right direction

From the orientation of promoting and building community tourism spots associated with socio -economic development, besides focusing on evaluating the potential and advantages of the region, Nam Giang is making efforts to form attractive destinations with typical products, creating highlights to attract tourists.

This is considered a suitable direction to connect and turn district tourism into an important economic sector of the district, contributing to increasing income and employment, gradually improving the lives of mountainous people.

Exploiting potential

Mr. Tran Ngoc Hung - Head of the Department of Culture and Information of Nam Giang district said, specifying the contents and tasks according to Resolution 08 of the District Party Committee and Project 03 of the District People's Committee on developing Nam Giang tourism, in recent times, in addition to surveying and evaluating the potential and advantages of the region, the locality has initially built a foundation for developing community-based tourism models, creating ideal destinations for tourists.

According to Mr. Hung, Nam Giang has many advantages in developing community tourism and eco-tourism. In addition to the diversity of ethnic groups living there, from Co Tu, Ve, Ta Rieng to Kinh, Tay, Nung... with colorful traditional cultural values, the locality has many unique community spaces, along with attractive and interesting tourist attractions.

“To achieve the goal of effective tourism development, we aim to continue developing community tourism in Ta Bhing commune and some neighboring villages and communes. At the same time, we will coordinate to find exploitation directions, including promoting unique cultural values to build authentic experiential tourism programs, opening up directions to turn the highland cultural space into a typical tourism product, creating a distinct brand for tourism in Nam Giang district” - Mr. Hung shared.

On the basis of exploiting and promoting unique cultural values, Nam Giang aims to develop traditional tourism products, helping to enhance the interaction between tourists and local people through activities to experience daily life, production and enjoyment of unique traditional cuisine .

In addition to the goal of improving the quality of life, tourism exploitation and development activities are also expected to contribute to raising people's awareness in preserving natural landscapes, promoting the effectiveness of cultural identity conservation, and aiming at sustainable poverty reduction.

Community Based

In addition to Za Ra and Alieng residential areas (Ta Bhing commune), Dong Ram cultural village (Thanh My town) was chosen as a destination for the goal of developing a community-based tourism model in Nam Giang. With the advantage of many ethnic groups living together on an area of over 84 hectares, Dong Ram is considered a "new space" suitable for developing community tourism associated with eco-tourism.

In addition to the impressive natural elements at the foot of the rocky mountain, the 22-hectare rice field of the highland people is becoming a tourist attraction. In particular, the immense green of the rubber forest along the foot of the mountain interspersed with a waterfall system is very suitable for visitors to experience and explore the clouds.

“In addition, Dong Ram also has the Co Tu drum and gong clubs, the Tay people's Tinh and Then singing clubs, and many unique and attractive traditional dishes such as zară, com lam, buffalo horn cakes, pan-fried pork belly, and seven-color sticky rice prepared with the flavor of the mountains and forests. In addition, there are also weaving crafts; unique folk sports such as slingshot, crossbow shooting, grass-pulling, and con throwing, promising to bring interesting experiences to visitors when they arrive,” said Mr. Hung.

Vice Chairman of Nam Giang District People's Committee - Mr. Chau Van Ngo said, in the goal of developing local tourism, the human factor, specifically ethnic minorities with unique traditional cultural values, is considered the decisive factor to form and develop unique tourism. Effectively promoting natural landscapes, improving community capacity, supporting people to maintain and restore traditional cultural values... are expected to be the foundation to help Nam Giang initially form community tourism products of discovery and experience.

Choosing the right direction is also the direction that helps Nam Giang open up new destinations, including Dong Ram. The story of mountain tourism, revolving around cycling around the fields, camping on the hills and enjoying traditional culinary specialties; listening to the Co Tu folk songs, blending with the attractive and captivating melodies of the Tinh lute and Then singing of the Tay - Nung people, is considered a new perspective in developing tourism in the highlands of Nam Giang in the coming time.
