Developing a sustainable livelihood model for people in Ham Thanh commune

On October 29, the survey delegation of the Ethnic Committee, Lam Dong Provincial People's Council, led by Provincial Party Committee member and Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Council Da Cat Vinh, conducted a field survey and worked with the People's Committee of Ham Thanh commune.

The delegation surveyed the 93ha production area, the 41ha production area, and the cow raising support model. At the same time, they visited households living in houses that were supported to be repaired or rebuilt under the program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses. According to the report of Ham Thanh Commune People's Committee, the whole commune has a total of 268 poor households, accounting for 6.47%. Of which, 235 are poor ethnic minority households, accounting for 87%.

Ethnic affairs and ethnic policy implementation in the commune have been carried out promptly, in line with the Party and State's orientation. Many policies to support ethnic minorities in production development, improving essential infrastructure, education , healthcare and sustainable poverty reduction have been implemented. These programs have brought about practical results, contributing to improving the lives and living conditions of the people.

According to the Mountain Service Center, in recent years, crop varieties and agricultural materials have been provided in a timely manner. The transfer of scientific and technological advances has also been widely implemented. These measures have helped ethnic households develop commodity production, increase income and contribute to hunger eradication and poverty reduction.

Thanks to that, people's lives are improved. Agricultural production is increasingly effective thanks to appropriate crop and livestock structures. This helps to form stable commodity production areas.

However, the rate of poor and near-poor households remains high. This makes it difficult to implement policies. Some households lack goodwill and sell their products to avoid paying debts at harvest time.

At the meeting, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Council Da Cat Vinh stated that the poverty rate in Ham Thanh commune is high. He requested the Department of Ethnic Minorities and Religions and the People's Committee of Ham Thanh commune to continue to fully implement ethnic tasks and policies according to the orientation of the Central and provincial levels. At the same time, strengthen propaganda and mobilize people to promote the spirit of self-reliance, self-improvement, strive to get rich and reduce poverty.

In addition, it is necessary to continue to pay attention to previous models and build more livelihood support models that are suitable for practice and have long-term sustainability.
