Emergency surgery for man hit by pickup truck on Kham Thien street

On the afternoon of July 23, Viet Duc Friendship Hospital admitted Mr. NVT (58 years old, residing in Hanoi) in critical condition after being hit by a pickup truck on Kham Thien Street.

The patient underwent emergency surgery at night.

According to initial information, while walking, Mr. T. was suddenly hit by a car that lost control, causing serious multiple injuries. The patient was taken to the emergency room by local people and transferred to Viet Duc Friendship Hospital in a state of skin peeling wound on the left buttock, closed abdominal trauma with ruptured duodenum, torn transverse colon muscle, monitoring for traumatic brain injury, scalp wound and closed chest injury.

After examination and emergency consultation, the doctors prescribed emergency surgery with the following interventions: debridement, suturing and treatment of skin laceration wounds; exploratory laparotomy, duodenal-jejunal anastomosis on the Y-loop (a surgical technique in which a segment of the jejunum is lifted up and connected to the common bile duct, forming a Y shape); jejunostomy, abdominal lavage and drainage.

Currently, the patient is continuing to be treated and monitored at the Center for Anesthesia and Surgical Resuscitation, Viet Duc Friendship Hospital.
