Hero Nguyen Van Bay - Colonel, MiG-17 pilot (from Lai Vung, Dong Thap ). He shot down 7 American planes and is recognized as the only pilot who used MiG-17 to shoot down the most American planes in the world.
After the country's reunification, he was assigned to take over Can Tho Airport, participate in the operation of Tan Son Nhat and Bien Hoa Airports, and command missions in Cambodia. In September 2019, he passed away at the age of 83, after nearly a week of stroke treatment at Military Hospital 175 (HCMC).

In 1953, when he was only 17 years old, Mr. Bay ran away from his wedding at his family's request to join the army and gather in the North, where he began learning to fly airplanes.
However, to be able to learn to fly a plane, one must have completed grade 10/10 (equivalent to grade 12 today) while he had only completed grade 3. Therefore, Mr. Bay only had 7 days to complete the program of the remaining 7 classes.
Later, Mr. Bay was gradually promoted to the rank of colonel and held many positions in the military such as: Commander of Air Force Regiment 937, Deputy Commander of Division 372, Deputy Chief of Staff of the Air Force.
After completing pilot training in the Soviet Union, he returned home and began fighting in the air front.
