(Dan Tri) - The Philippines is the 9th team to announce its roster for the 2024 AFF Cup. They have eliminated many stars because they cannot be called up. Notably, this team also uses high school players.
On the afternoon of December 6, the Philippines announced the list of 26 players participating in the AFF Cup 2024. Among them, this team could not summon its brightest star, Gerrit Holtmann, who is playing for Bochum Club in the Bundesliga.
Holtmann holds the record for the fastest run in Bundesliga history with a speed of 36.74 km/h in the match against Frankfurt in round 9 of the Bundesliga this season.

Not only that, the Philippines also lacks a series of naturalized stars such as Kevin Ray Mendoza, Neil Etheridge, Jefferson Tabinas, Jesse Curran, Daisuke Sato, Manny Ott, John-Patrick Strauß, Kevin Ingreso, Dylan De Bruycker, Kenshiro Daniels.
The reason is that the AFF Cup 2024 is not part of the FIFA competition system, so clubs have the right not to release players. That means that the Philippine force participating in the AFF Cup is only the B team, consisting of many young and inexperienced players.
The Philippines also called up 18-year-old goalkeeper Nicholas Guimaraes. This goalkeeper is studying at Funabashi High School. He is among the youngest players in the 2024 AFF Cup, only older than Phousomboun Panyavong (Laos) and Arkhan Kaka (Indonesia).

The Philippines called up 20/26 players under 25 years old. The oldest player is striker Patrick Reichelt (born in 1988).
As neither the Philippines nor Indonesia brought their strongest squads to the 2024 AFF Cup, Vietnam’s chances of advancing have skyrocketed. The entire Vietnamese team has arrived in Laos to prepare for the opening match on December 9.
