On the morning of May 26, under the witness of President Luong Cuong and French President Emmanuel Macron, Minister of Home Affairs Pham Thi Thanh Tra and French Minister of Culture Rachida Dati officially signed a Letter of Intent on cooperation in the field of archives between the two countries.

This document marks a new development in the cooperative relationship between the State Records and Archives Department of Vietnam and the French Inter-Ministerial Archives. This relationship was officially established in 2009 through the signing of the Framework Agreement and was strengthened through the 2016 Agreement.

Over the past 16 years, the two sides have developed many cooperative design activities to develop archives galleries; publish archives; build a common database of archives; exchange working groups to share experiences and provide professional training in the field of archives.

According to the Letter of Intent, the two sides will cooperate in developing and submitting a nomination dossier for the World Documentary Heritage List under the UNESCO Memory of the World Program for the archives on Indochina (1862-1954) currently managed by Vietnamese and French archives.

In addition, the content of cooperation in presenting and introducing information archives through archival galleries, seminars and producing archives; upgrading electronic information technology to introduce sources of documents on the common history of Vietnam and France (1862-1954) has been built in 2023.

This cooperation will facilitate researchers and readers to search, exploit and use online.

At the same time, cooperate in organizing professional activities (conferences, seminars, etc.) to share experiences in preserving and promoting valuable documents with the goal of fostering and improving the archival capacity of both sides.

The signing of this document is not only an important milestone in cooperation but also contributes to deepening the Vietnam-France comprehensive strategic partnership, towards the 55th anniversary (1973-2028) of establishing diplomatic relations between the two countries in 2028.
