Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang meets with leaders of countries

On the morning of February 27, in Geneva, Switzerland, on the occasion of attending the High-Level Session of the 52nd Session of the United Nations Human Rights Council, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang had meetings with UN Secretary-General António Guterres, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Defense of the Republic of Ireland Michéal Martin, Foreign Minister of Venezuela Yvan Gil Pinto, and Foreign Minister of Norway Anniken Huitfeld.

* At the meeting with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, the Secretary-General recalled his deep impressions of his visit to Vietnam in November 2022. The UN Secretary-General affirmed that he will continue to make efforts to promote good cooperation between the United Nations and Vietnam. Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang affirmed that Vietnam always strongly supports multilateralism and the central role of the United Nations in global governance and in coordinating efforts to address common challenges. The Deputy Prime Minister suggested that the two sides continue to promote cooperation and implement major cooperation orientations in line with the priorities of both sides, including the results of the Secretary-General's recent visit.

* Meeting with Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Defence of the Republic of Ireland Michéal Martin, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang was pleased to see that bilateral cooperation has developed stably and positively in recent times and affirmed that Vietnam attaches importance to promoting the good friendship and multifaceted cooperation with Ireland. The Deputy Prime Minister suggested that both sides promote delegation exchanges at all levels, especially at high levels; and suggested that the Irish Government create more favorable conditions for more Vietnamese goods to enter the Irish market. The two sides discussed directions to promote cooperation in the coming time, especially in the fields of economy , trade and investment to bring real benefits to people and businesses on both sides.

The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ireland highly appreciated the development of cooperation between the two countries in recent times; affirmed that the Irish Government wishes to further promote cooperation with Vietnam, especially in the economic and trade fields to match the development of bilateral relations. The two sides also affirmed that they will continue to strengthen cooperation and support each other at multilateral forums, including the United Nations Human Rights Council.

* During the meeting with Venezuelan Foreign Minister Yvan Gil Pinto, the two sides were pleased to assess that the bilateral relationship between Vietnam and Venezuela has been continuously developing after nearly 35 years of establishing diplomatic relations and more than 15 years of comprehensive partnership. Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang affirmed that Vietnam attaches great importance to promoting the traditional friendship and good cooperation with Venezuela. The Deputy Prime Minister suggested that the two sides promote the exchange of delegations at all levels, continue to effectively maintain bilateral cooperation mechanisms, and promote political trust.

Foreign Minister Yvan Gil Pinto expressed his gratitude to the Government and People of Venezuela for the support and solidarity of the Government and People of Vietnam over the years; affirmed that the Government of Venezuela wishes to further promote cooperation with Vietnam, especially in the fields of economy, trade, agriculture and energy to better match the development of the bilateral relationship.

* Meeting with Norwegian Foreign Minister Anniken Huitfeld, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang affirmed that Vietnam attaches importance to the traditional friendship and multifaceted cooperation with Norway. To further promote bilateral relations in the coming time, the Deputy Prime Minister suggested that the two sides consider establishing a Joint Committee on Economic and Trade, and suggested that Norway, as the negotiating coordinator, promote the early conclusion of negotiations, signing and implementation of the Vietnam - EFTA FTA (European Free Trade Association (EFTA) consisting of four members Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland). The Deputy Prime Minister emphasized that the two sides need to further expand cooperation areas, not only in trade and investment but also in development cooperation, especially clean energy, renewable energy, sustainable marine economy, and effectively implement the COP 26 commitments.

Norwegian Foreign Minister Anniken Huitfeld expressed his delight at the positive developments in bilateral relations over the past 50 years and affirmed that Norway is ready to cooperate with Vietnam to promote bilateral trade and investment to match the potential of the two countries, while expanding cooperation to other areas. The Norwegian Foreign Minister agreed with Vietnam's proposals, especially in the fields of clean energy, renewable energy, marine economy, etc. The two sides also agreed to closely coordinate and support each other at international forums, especially when both assume the position of member of the United Nations Human Rights Council for the 2023-2025 term./.
