On the afternoon of July 30, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang and his delegation went directly to the scene of the mine accident that killed 5 workers at the Hon Gai Coal Company - TKV.
Attending the working session with the Deputy Prime Minister were Mr. Nguyen Xuan Ky, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Council; Mr. Cao Tuong Huy, Chairman of the Quang Ninh Provincial People's Committee, leaders of TKV Group and related units.
After listening to the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, leaders of TKV Group and Hon Gai Coal Company report on the incident, rescue work and visits, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang sympathized with the painful losses of the victims' families, acknowledged the efforts in rescue work of the coal industry and Quang Ninh province, along with the application of state and business policies to provide maximum support to the victims' families.
The Deputy Prime Minister requested Quang Ninh province and relevant units to continue to strictly implement the Prime Minister's direction, especially in investigating and clarifying the cause, promptly overcoming the consequences of the accident, clarifying the responsibilities of relevant organizations and individuals, and strictly handling violations if any.
TKV Group, Hon Gai Coal Company and related units strengthen inspection and examination work, promptly detect and handle violations of labor safety regulations in coal mining activities, and prevent similar cases from happening.
Quang Ninh province and the coal industry continue to coordinate to deploy more effective solutions to improve labor safety coefficients in the production process; closely monitor weather and climate change developments to have effective preventive measures.
Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Nguyen Xuan Ky - Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the People's Council of Quang Ninh province emphasized: Through this incident, the locality will continue to direct and closely coordinate with TKV to learn from experience in labor safety during coal mining, so that similar unfortunate incidents do not occur. Along with quickly overcoming the incident, TKV Group and Hon Gai Coal Company continue to do a good job of ideological work for workers, so that workers can feel secure in production, continue to increase mining capacity, and meet coal demand for the economy.
At the inspection, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang sent support and encouragement to the families of the deceased workers.
Previously, at 10:10 p.m. on July 29, 2024, at the Hon Gai Coal Company - TKV (Ha Long City), a mine accident occurred, killing 5 workers. The initial cause was determined to be a sudden collapse of coal and rocks in the mine.
Immediately after receiving the information, Mr. Nguyen Xuan Ky, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Council directed and assigned the Chairman of the Quang Ninh Provincial People's Committee, along with leaders of Departments, branches, and local authorities to be present at the scene to coordinate with the Chairman of the Board of Members of the Group, the General Director of the Group to direct the Hon Gai Coal Company and related units to deploy rescue measures.
By 5:28 a.m. on July 30, all five dead workers had been removed from the furnace.
The Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee has directed relevant agencies and TKV to provide maximum support to the families of the deceased workers; focus on investigation and promptly clarify the cause.
In the immediate future, Quang Ninh province will support 25 million VND/deceased person. Vietnam National Coal and Mineral Industries Group will support 20 million VND/deceased person; Vietnam National Coal and Mineral Industries Union will support 20 million VND/deceased person. Hon Gai Coal Company will handle the regimes according to State regulations; arrange funeral expenses for workers and support workers' families with an initial level of 100 million VND/family.
