At the ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Huu Hoai, Chairman of the People's Committee of
Quang Binh province, said that Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park continues to be recognized as a World Natural Heritage with two outstanding global criteria, including: "
being an outstanding example representing ecological processes in the evolution and development of terrestrial ecosystems", and
"possessing the most significant natural habitat for biodiversity conservation ". Previously, in 2003, Phong Nha-Ke Bang was honored by UNESCO as a World Natural Heritage according to the criterion of
"outstanding geological and geomorphological value" . Thus, up to this point, Phong Nha-Ke Bang is the first heritage in Southeast Asia to meet 3/4 criteria of a world natural heritage. This event also recognized the efforts of the Vietnamese Government, the Vietnam UNESCO Commission, and Quang Binh province in conservation work. Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park is a place that hides the mysteries of nature in terms of geology, terrain, caves and biodiversity. These are heritages of outstanding global value with majestic, mysterious and romantic, charming and captivating. This place also retains traces of evidence of geological changes leading to the formation of the Earth. With nearly 300 large and small caves, including Phong Nha, Tien Son, Thien Duong caves and especially the discovery of Son Doong cave in 2009, the largest cave today, further highlights the natural heritage values of Phong Nha-Ke Bang, a natural wonder of the world. In addition, Phong Nha-Ke Bang forest also bears many traces of the heroic history of our nation in the resistance war for independence and freedom such as the Ho Chi Minh Trail, Road 20 Quyet Thang, Tam Co Cave... Politburo member, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc emphasized that recognizing the unique values of nature, culture and history of this land, the Government has directed Quang Binh province to develop and synchronously deploy many solutions and encourage organizations and individuals to participate in preserving and promoting the value of Phong Nha-Ke Bang heritage.

According to the Deputy Prime Minister, UNESCO's recognition of Phong Nha-Ke Bang this time affirms the diversity, endemism and integrity of the natural world that exists here, and at the same time recognizes the efforts of the Vietnamese Government and Quang Binh province in the management and enforcement of laws on nature conservation, biodiversity, protection and transfer of outstanding global values of the world natural heritage to future generations. Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc requested central ministries and branches, especially the Ministry of Culture,
Sports and Tourism, the Vietnam National Commission for UNESCO, relevant agencies and all people, with all their responsibilities and sentiments, to continue to contribute more to Quang Binh province to preserve, conserve and promote the sustainability of Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park.
