Hanoi parents again discovered food with signs of "spoilage" in school kitchens

On the morning of November 7, some parents of Kim Quan Primary School (Thach That Commune, Hanoi) conducted a "surprise" inspection of the food supply and processing at the school's semi-boarding kitchen. At the time of the inspection, the monitoring team discovered food with signs of suspected spoilage that was not on the daily menu for students.

Another school in Hanoi discovered food suspected of being spoiled.

Accordingly, at the time of inspection, parents discovered some food that showed signs of not meeting quality standards. Specifically, in the raw material storage area, the monitoring team discovered about 5kg of chopped ribs and bones and 3kg of ground beef in an icebox near the processing area.

The parents described the food as having an unappetizing color and smell, and the bones showing signs of spoilage. In addition, the kitchen also contained a pot of unused cooking oil without a clear label.

For the unit providing meals for students - Hoa Viet Company has not given a unified answer about the origin and purpose of using the above food.

Regarding this incident, Mr. Tran Hoang Linh, Chairman of the People's Committee of Thach That commune, said that immediately after receiving the information, he requested the police to investigate and handle the case according to regulations.

According to Mr. Tran Hoang Linh, the case is currently under investigation so there is no official conclusion yet.

Ms. Khuat Thi Khuyen, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Thach That commune, confirmed that she had grasped information about the incident.

"The food discovered by parents was not on the students' daily menu. We are currently unclear about what purpose Hoa Viet Company intends to use this food for or to which unit it will supply it to," said Ms. Khuat Thi Khuyen.

Parents in Hanoi discovered food with signs of "spoilage" again.

It is known that Hoa Viet Company is the unit selected by the school through the evaluation and inspection process of the local government, not a designated enterprise.

Currently, authorities are conducting an investigation to ensure food safety and student rights, and to review the entire process of providing meals at school.

A series of cases where parents discovered unsafe food

Due to the requirement of studying 2 sessions per day, many schools are forced to organize meals for students. Food safety and school nutrition are issues that receive much attention from parents. Meals not only provide energy for students but are also an important factor that directly affects their health and development.

It has only been more than 2 months since the 2025-2026 school year began, but there have been many incidents where parents have discovered that food used in school canteens is spoiled, rancid, and has an odor that is not of guaranteed quality, causing public outrage.

On the morning of October 4, parents of Chu Minh Primary School (Quang Oai, Hanoi) discovered that meat and fish smelled of unsafety. The kitchen stopped providing meals for the boarding school on October 7.

On October 24, 2025, under the direction of the Commune People's Committee, the school and representatives of parents agreed to start providing boarding meals to students on October 27, 2025 and strengthen close supervision of all stages to ensure absolute food safety and hygiene.

On the morning of October 15, parents of Cu Khe Primary School (Binh Minh, Hanoi) discovered that the kitchen was using spoiled meat and runny, smelly eggs to cook for students. The scandal caused 182 students of the school to stay home from school because the boarding kitchen could not safely resume operations. The Hanoi Department of Education and Training and the Hanoi People's Committee stepped in to inspect, supervise and direct the kitchen to resume normal operations and ensure safety for students.

On the morning of October 24, a group of parents from Tho Loc Primary School (Phuc Tho Commune, Hanoi ) made a surprise inspection at My Giang Trading and Service Company Limited - the school's food supplier. The parents discovered food being fried in pans of black oil, suspecting that the cooking oil had been used many times and was not safe for health.

On October 26 (after 2 days of parents complaining about the above unit using black cooking oil), the school met and decided to change the boarding meal supplier.

However, the school had to temporarily suspend the organization of boarding meals for a week to complete some related procedures. On November 3, the school started organizing boarding meals for students again and the unit providing meals was a new unit.
