Parents worried about information about dividing and merging classes in the middle of the school year

The parents of class 8E, Vinh Tan Secondary School (Truong Vinh ward, Nghe An) said they had sent a petition to the Nghe An Department of Education and Training, reflecting on the school's announcement of a policy to divide classes into smaller ones to merge students into other classes in the same grade.

According to the petition, this plan is expected to be implemented after the midterm exam of the first semester of the 2025-2026 school year. The reason is said to be because the school lacks regular teachers and does not have the funds to pay contract teachers.

Parents believe that dividing classes in the middle of the school year is inappropriate, can cause psychological disruption and seriously affect students' learning outcomes.

“Children will have to change homeroom teachers, classmates and classroom environments suddenly, which can easily put them under psychological pressure,” the petition states.

Parents also expressed frustration at the lack of discussion and consensus as the school has not yet held a meeting to gather opinions on the policy.

“This was done in the middle of the school year, without any consensus, causing parents to be very surprised and worried,” the petition reads.

Parents are concerned that if the merger occurs, the number of students in other classes in the block may exceed the prescribed limit, affecting the quality of teaching and management.

One parent shared: “My child has just settled into class, gotten used to the teacher and friends. If I have to move to another class in the middle, it will be very difficult to adapt. Especially at this age, children are easily affected psychologically.”

In the petition, the parents of class 8E requested the Nghe An Department of Education and Training and relevant agencies to consider stopping the policy of dividing and merging classes, keeping the organization of class 8E intact until the end of the school year to ensure the learning rights and psychological stability of students.

Speaking to Dan Tri reporter, Ms. Nguyen Thi Le Hang, Principal of Vinh Tan Secondary School, said: "Currently, it is only public opinion and opinions from parents. The school has not made a specific decision yet. We are reviewing the content of the petition and collecting collective opinions before deciding on a course of action. The school has not yet divided the class into 8E."

Mr. Vo Van Ly, Vice Chairman of Truong Vinh Ward People's Committee, said: "We have not yet received any application from parents. If the school has a policy of adjustment, it is necessary to carry out propaganda work, report to Nghe An Department of Education and Training and the Ward People's Committee. This may stem from the shortage of teachers. If we receive an application, we will consider and handle it according to regulations."

Parents hope that the Nghe An Department of Education and Training and the People's Committee of Truong Vinh Ward will soon take measures to intervene and ensure a stable learning situation for students while the school year is taking place.
