NDO - On the morning of March 8, at the Government Headquarters, on the occasion of the 115th anniversary of International Women's Day (March 8); the 1985th anniversary of the Hai Ba Trung Uprising, towards the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025); Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met with female heroes of the People's Armed Forces, female heroes of labor, female generals; attended the 40th anniversary of the Kovalevskaia Award (1985-2025) and the award ceremony in 2024.

The event is an opportunity to review the glorious tradition of the nation and pay tribute to female generals and heroines who have contributed to the struggle for national liberation and development; it is also an opportunity to encourage and motivate female scientists, women who have been contributing on all fronts, from economics , science to education, culture and social life.

The Kovalevskaia Prize is a noble award named after the outstanding Russian female mathematician of the 19th century - Sophia Kovalevskaia (1850-1891). Over 40 years of operation (from 1985 to 2025), 22 groups and 57 individuals have received the award with many outstanding achievements, contributing many initiatives of high scientific and practical value. This is a vivid proof of the persistent and tireless efforts of Vietnamese women in studying and researching.

In Vietnam, the Kovalevskaia Award has been maintained since 1985, the first female scientist to receive the award in 1985 was Meritorious Teacher Bui Thi Ty - who received the award while working at Nguyen Hue High School for the Gifted - Ha Tay (now Hanoi). Among the female scientists who have won the Award, there are Professor, Doctor, People's Physician Huynh Thi Phuong Lien - Women's collective of vaccine production area, Central Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology, Ministry of Health, representative of the female collective that won the Kovalevskaia Award in 1999 and Associate Professor, Doctor Nguyen Thi Tram (also known as Ms. Tram Lua) who won the Kovalevskaia Award for individuals in 2000 and was awarded the title of Hero of Labor for her persistent and outstanding contributions to the fields of medicine and agriculture of the country.

The youngest female scientists to ever receive the award are Professor, Dr. Le Thi Thanh Nhan, currently Director of the Department of Ethnic Education, Ministry of Education and Training, and Professor, Dr. Vu Thi Thu Ha, Deputy Director of the Vietnam Institute of Industrial Chemistry, Director of the National Key Laboratory of Petrochemical Technology, who won the award in 2011 when they were both 41 years old.

The 2024 Kovalevskaia Prize was awarded to two individuals: Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Minh Tan - Director of the Institute for Research and Development of Applications of Natural Compounds, Lecturer of the Faculty of Chemical Engineering, School of Chemistry and Life Sciences, Hanoi University of Science and Technology, Ministry of Education and Training; Associate Professor, Dr. Dang Thi My Dung - Deputy Director of the Institute of Nanotechnology, Ho Chi Minh City National University, with outstanding achievements in scientific research and practical application, making important contributions to the development of the unit and the industry, many research results put into practical application, transferring billions of dong worth of technology to businesses in Vietnam.

At the ceremony, on behalf of the Party and State leaders, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh presented the 2024 Kovalevskaia Prize to Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Minh Tan and Associate Professor, Dr. Dang Thi My Dung.

Speaking at the ceremony, on the occasion of International Women's Day, March 8, on behalf of General Secretary To Lam, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh sent to the female Heroes of the Armed Forces, female Heroes of Labor, female generals, female scientists, female leaders and managers attending the meeting today and all Vietnamese women his warmest greetings, sincere greetings and best wishes.

The Prime Minister emphasized that women always play a very important role in the development of each family, each community, each country, each ethnic group and all of humanity in general. The history of the Vietnamese nation is closely associated with the shining marks of heroic Vietnamese women. Throughout the history of building and defending the country, generations of Vietnamese women have always strived to rise up, overcome all adversities, barriers, prejudices, difficulties and obstacles, and made great contributions and dedications, contributing significantly to the construction and solid protection of the beautiful country of Vietnam.

Beloved President Ho Chi Minh affirmed that “The Vietnamese people are a heroic people, Vietnamese women are heroic women”. The qualities of “Heroic, indomitable, loyal, and courageous” of Vietnamese women have always been clearly demonstrated throughout the glorious history of our nation, from the steadfast patriotism, indomitable will, and indomitable spirit of the Trung sisters and Trieu sisters; from the shining revolutionary heroism of female revolutionaries Nguyen Thi Minh Khai, Vo Thi Sau, Nguyen Thi Dinh…; from the noble sacrifices of Vietnamese Heroic Mothers in the struggle for national independence and reunification of the country - from the heroic examples of selfless sacrifice of the female heroes of the People's Armed Forces Ngo Thi Tuyen, La Thi Tam…; from the spirit of enthusiastic, creative, devoted work for the common cause of female labor heroes Cu Thi Hau, Nguyen Thi Rao (Ba Thi), Huynh Thi Phuong Lien... and many other typical examples that further embellish the tradition of "Heroic, indomitable, loyal, and responsible".

In the process of innovation, integration and national development, regardless of the circumstances and in any working position, Vietnamese women always strongly promote traditional values ​​and good qualities that have been nurtured for generations, overcome all difficulties and challenges, always unite, join hands, be unanimous, dynamic, creative, strive and make great contributions to the cause of national construction and development of our Party, State and people.

The Prime Minister affirmed that our Party and State always pay special attention to the development of women and women's work, with many mechanisms, policies and solutions to create favorable conditions, care for, protect rights, enhance the role and contribution of women and promote gender equality in all aspects of life and society. The Party and State's guidelines, policies and guidelines on women have always been focused on by all levels, sectors and localities in organizing and implementing and achieving many important results. Under the leadership of the Party, with the special attention of all levels, sectors, localities and the whole society, we are proud to see that Vietnamese women are increasingly developing in all aspects, affirming their role, position and important contributions in all fields and the sustainable development of society.

The Prime Minister stated that Vietnam is one of the earliest countries to achieve the Millennium Development Goals on gender equality and women's empowerment. According to the Global Gender Gap Report 2024 published by the World Economic Forum (WEF), Vietnam's Gender Equality Index in 2024 ranked 72/146 countries, up 11 places compared to 2022. The proportion of leaders and managers in Party and State agencies has been improved in quantity and quality. The proportion of female National Assembly deputies for the 2021-2026 term in Vietnam is high compared to other countries in the Asia-Pacific region (reaching 30.26%). Women are also a large labor force in the country. In recent years, the proportion of enterprises owned by women has increased significantly (accounting for about 20%). 51% of Vietnamese enterprises have women in their ownership structure, much higher than in other countries. In the fields of education, culture, sports and tourism, women play an important role in preserving and maintaining the nation's fine traditional cultural quintessence.

At the same time, in today's era, Vietnamese women are always an important force in national defense, security, foreign affairs, preserving and protecting the independent, peaceful, cooperative and developing socialist Vietnam. Vietnam is one of the leading countries in the rate of women participating in United Nations peacekeeping activities. In particular, in the field of science and technology, we are very pleased that the female intellectual force is growing stronger and stronger, many people have achieved great success both at home and abroad, and are recognized by the international community. According to the list of recognized titles of Professor and Associate Professor by the State Council of Professors, in the period 2019-2024, there are 601 female Professors and Associate Professors out of a total of 2,798 Professors and Associate Professors, accounting for 21.5%.

The Prime Minister stated that the Kovalevskaia Award is the first prestigious national award to honor the efforts and contributions of female scientists in the field of natural sciences. Since its inception, the Award has affirmed its position and prestige, received positive responses from Vietnamese female scientists, and has become a companion, a source of encouragement, and a motivation for women to be more confident and enthusiastic in scientific research, especially in the field of natural sciences.

Over the past 40 years (1985-2025), 22 groups and 57 individuals have received the Kovalevskaia Award for their outstanding achievements in the field of research and application of science and technology into practical life, bringing many benefits to all aspects of socio-economic life. Warmly praising and congratulating the outstanding and remarkable achievements of the two female scientists who received the Kovalevskaia Award, the Prime Minister emphasized that these are living examples, demonstrating the intelligence, creativity, and persistent and tireless efforts in studying and researching of Vietnamese female intellectuals and scientists in the cause of national construction and defense, contributing to enhancing the prestige and position of our country in the international arena, including in the field of science.

The Prime Minister affirmed that we would like to sincerely thank Professor, Dr. Nguyen Thi Doan, former Vice President, President of the Vietnam Association for Promoting Education, President of the Vietnam Kovalevskaia Award Committee and Former Vice President Nguyen Thi Binh - the first President of the Vietnam Kovalevskaia Award Committee, for devoting much enthusiasm, intelligence and time to the cause of promoting education, directing the maintenance of the effective operation of the Kovalevskaia Award over the years, contributing to encouraging and motivating women in the field of scientific research.

On this occasion, on behalf of the Party and the State, the Prime Minister acknowledged and highly appreciated the great contributions of the female heroes of the armed forces, female heroes of labor, female generals, and female scientists over the past time. They are role models to learn from and contribute to building a learning society, firmly entering the new era, the era of science, technology, and innovation. They are positive factors, spreading good values, inspiring women's forces, to develop together, contributing to the common cause of the country.

The Prime Minister commended and highly appreciated the efforts of the Vietnam Women's Union at all levels for its many innovations and creativity in launching and organizing emulation movements, and many practical activities to encourage, cheer, and support women to rise up, escape poverty, get rich, and develop in all aspects; thereby discovering, honoring, and replicating many advanced models, creating a positive ripple effect in the community and society. In particular, the Prime Minister sincerely thanked and highly appreciated the especially important contributions and dedication of all Vietnamese women - those who, every day, every hour, every moment, regardless of difficulties and hardships, always devote themselves wholeheartedly and wholeheartedly to their families, relatives, friends, the community, society, and to an increasingly better Vietnam and to the happiness of the people.

The Prime Minister stated that 2025 is of special significance, as it is the year of many major commemorative events of the country, the year of "acceleration, breakthrough, and reaching the finish line", contributing to the successful implementation of the 5-year Plan 2021-2025; at the same time, focusing on arranging the organizational apparatus; organizing Party Congresses at all levels towards the 14th National Party Congress; contributing to "creating momentum, creating momentum" for the country to enter a new era - the era of striving to develop richly and prosperously for the nation. The Prime Minister emphasized that it is necessary to promote women's movements, promote the good qualities of women through the periods, create conditions for women to enjoy these achievements, ensure legitimate rights and interests such as gender equality, progress, fairness, and inclusive development.

The Prime Minister shared that recently, the Government has proposed, the Central Committee has issued a Conclusion, the National Assembly has passed a Resolution on the GDP growth target of 8% or more in 2025 to contribute to completing the growth target for the entire period of 2021-2025; creating momentum for double-digit growth in the next period. This is a very heavy task, but also very important and glorious to be able to achieve the two 100-year strategic goals; requiring the synchronous, drastic and effective participation of the entire political system, the business community and the people of the whole country, including the particularly important role of Women, with representatives being typical women at this meeting.

The Prime Minister requested the Vietnam Women's Union to further promote the representative role of women of all walks of life in advising on support policies, creating conditions for Vietnamese women in general, and female scientists in particular, to continue to promote their talents, intelligence, and dedication to the advancement and development of women, for rapid and sustainable development. At the same time, the Prime Minister requested all levels, sectors, localities, and the Vietnam Women's Union to actively, proactively, and effectively participate in the major goals, policies, and guidelines of the Party on national development, accordingly:

Prioritize resources for developing high-quality human resources for women, especially in the fields of science, economics, society, and humanities, with a focus on women working in remote, border, and island areas. Create all favorable conditions for women to have equal, active, and effective access to the application of science and technology, innovation, and digital transformation, thereby contributing to the successful implementation of Resolution 57-NQ/TW of the Politburo. Proactively and actively support women to integrate internationally in a practical and effective manner, contributing to enhancing the country's position in all fields, especially science and technology, innovation, and digital transformation.

The Prime Minister suggested that the Vietnam Kovalevskaia Award Committee in the following years should continue to select and honor outstanding female collectives and individuals who have a widespread impact, creating motivation and encouraging outstanding achievements in scientific research activities, especially in the fields of education, healthcare, digital technology, automation, biotechnology, energy and environment, etc.; the award honors young women working in the field of science in general; thereby, contributing to honoring the good traditions and promoting the most valuable qualities of Vietnamese women in the cause of building and defending the Fatherland.

The Prime Minister expressed his hope and belief that Vietnamese women today will continue to uphold and promote the traditions of the Trung Sisters and Trieu Thi Mai and combine them with the values ​​of the new era - morality, knowledge, health, responsibility for themselves, their families and society, constantly innovate and create, contributing to building a strong and prosperous Vietnam, worthy of the praise of beloved President Ho Chi Minh: "The beautiful mountains and rivers of Vietnam are woven and embroidered by our women, young and old, to become more beautiful and brilliant".
