During their transit to Da Nang port, both INS Delhi and INS Satpura participated in the first ASEAN India Maritime Exercise (AIME) with naval ships from ASEAN countries, including the VPN Tran Hung Dao of Vietnam. This underscores the strong bond of friendship between the Navies of ASEAN countries and India.
Rear Admiral Gurcharan Singh also said that during this visit to Da Nang City, the delegation hopes to strengthen people-to-people ties, experience the rich culture of Vietnam and meet Vietnamese partners to enhance relations and mutual understanding between the two Navies. At the same time, the Indian Navy looks forward to welcoming Vietnamese Navy ships and delegations to participate in the upcoming multinational exercise MILAN in India in 2024.
According to the schedule of the visit to Da Nang, Rear Admiral Gurcharan Singh, Commander of the Eastern Fleet, Indian Navy, along with officers and commanders of two naval ships, will pay courtesy calls to the leaders of Military Region 5 Command and the leaders of the Da Nang City People's Committee.

The relationship was upgraded to Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2016 and defence cooperation is an important pillar of this partnership.
