Báo Tổ quốcBáo Tổ quốc01/09/2024

The People's Committee of Phu Yen province has decided to establish Phu Yen Geopark with a total area of nearly 3,000 km2, of which the total land area is about 1,927 km2 and about 1,000 km2 of inland water surface (from the shore to a depth of about 50m, including coastal islands).

The Phu Yen Geopark area is located in Tuy Hoa city, Song Cau town, Dong Hoa town, Tuy An district, and parts of Phu Hoa, Tay Hoa and Son Hoa districts. The specific area, scope and boundaries will be determined based on the results of the task "Investigation and survey of the potential of geological heritage and other heritage values in some areas of Phu Yen province".

The special national monument Ganh Da Dia (Tuy An district) is a collection of prismatic stone pillars arranged next to each other, one stone connected to the other, adjacent to the waves.

According to the above decision, Phu Yen Geopark will be preserved intact and exploited, used reasonably, sustainably, and comprehensively with the values of geological heritage, geomorphology, natural landscape, cultural identity (tangible, intangible), and biodiversity. It is oriented to build a dossier to submit to the United Nations Educational , Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) for recognition as a UNESCO Global Geopark.

The Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Phu Yen province is assigned to take the lead in implementing and coordinating with agencies and units to advise the Provincial People's Committee on implementing related contents.

Currently, Vietnam has three UNESCO global geoparks: Dak Nong Geopark; Dong Van Karst Plateau Global Geopark (Ha Giang province) and Non Nuoc Cao Bang Global Geopark (Cao Bang province).
