Phuket attracts a large number of tourists
According to Mr. Kamolphan Chalermsakulrat, Deputy Director of TAT, the number of tourists to Phuket Island in the first 5 months of the year increased by 5.19% compared to the same period last year.
Thai tourists accounted for 1.59 million arrivals to the island (up 6.73%) and there were 4.26 million international tourists (up 1.86%), generating revenue of 223 billion baht. The average hotel room occupancy rate was 82%.
In May alone, Phuket Island welcomed more than 900,000 visitors, including 247,000 Thais and 668,000 foreigners.
International arrivals that month fell 8.8%, generating 34.77 billion baht and marking a 2.93% decline compared to May 2024.
In June, the average hotel occupancy rate was 62.63%, with visitors staying an average of 3.24 nights. The total number of visitors in June reached 1.71 million, including 582,555 Thais and 1.13 million foreigners, generating revenue of more than 35 billion baht.
The island's top 10 foreign markets that month were India, Russia, China, Australia, Malaysia, Singapore, Saudi Arabia, the United Kingdom, the United States and South Korea.
In the first 6 months of the year, four source markets had more than 1 million tourists during this period: Malaysia, China, India and Russia.
Malaysia reached 2.29 million visitors and China reached 2.26 million, down 5.59% and 34.1% respectively, followed by the Indian market with 1.18 million visitors, up 13.8% and Russia reached 1.03 million visitors, up 12.3%.
Mr Kamolphan said the UK and Australian international tourist markets had grown strongly during those months. There were also large numbers of visitors from Germany, France, Kazakhstan, Malaysia and the United States.
Phuket International Airport reported 7,062 flights in June, serving 1.06 million passengers including 317,346 international passengers and 216,083 domestic passengers.
There were more than 48,000 flights in the first five months of 2025, accounting for 95% of total cumulative flight volume compared to 100% in the same period in 2019.
Along with that, to promote tourism, Phuket Island has organized many special events to increase its attractiveness and attract tourists.
Additionally, from August 14 to 17, the Asia Link Sketch Walk Phuket event will bring together 777 artists from 26 countries to sketch iconic Phuket locations. All artworks will be displayed at the Thailand Art Exhibition later this year.
Meanwhile, Phuket is also gearing up for the long weekend from July 10-13 with an estimated 199,460 visitors, generating 2.89 billion baht.
