Accordingly, the bridge is 17.2 km long, starting at Cha Va intersection (Binh Minh town, Vinh Long), ending at IC2 intersection (Cai Rang district, Can Tho city) - intersecting with Nam Song Hau national highway, the beginning of Can Tho - Ca Mau expressway.
The main bridge is over one kilometer long, designed as a cable-stayed bridge, located about 4.5 kilometers downstream from the existing bridge. The bridge deck is wide enough for 6 lanes (each lane is 3.75 meters wide), has an emergency stop strip, and a design speed of 100 kilometers per hour. The main span is 550 meters long, with a 300-meter wide navigational width.
The total investment will be determined at the pre-feasibility report stage. The project is expected to start construction in 2026 and be completed in 2030, using public investment capital.
Previously, in October 2024, the investor proposed two options for building a 4-lane bridge with costs of VND19,800 billion and VND27,500 billion.

According to the My Thuan Project Management Board, the bridge is an urgent project to synchronize with the Ho Chi Minh City - Can Tho expressway which has been opened to traffic and the Can Tho - Ca Mau expressway which is expected to be completed by the end of 2025. The project is the final piece on the North - South expressway in the West.
The Hau River is a branch of the Mekong River, flowing through seven provinces in the West. Can Tho 2 Bridge will be the fourth bridge across this river after Can Tho, Vam Cong (connecting Can Tho with Dong Thap), Chau Doc (An Giang).
