• PHU QUY ISLAND - MARINE ECONOMIC ZONE
During the process of coordinating the construction of the Project to merge the three provinces of Lam Dong, Binh Thuan and Dak Nong into the new Lam Dong province, Binh Thuan province made a clear recommendation: to organize Phu Quy special zone as a special administrative unit, with a separate management mechanism to maximize the economic potential of the sea and islands.
Looking more broadly, after the arrangement of provinces and communes, the whole country will have 13 special economic zones, including Phu Quy island district of Binh Thuan province. Phu Quy island district is only 18 km2 wide, about 56 nautical miles southeast of Phan Thiet city. The island not only has great potential for socio-economic development but is also an important strategic area in the East Sea because the distance of the island to neighboring areas such as Truong Sa, Hoang Sa, Cam Ranh, Con Dao and Vung Tau archipelagos is quite convenient.
In addition to the advantages for developing the marine economy, Phu Quy also has pristine landscapes with beautiful beaches, many famous scenic spots with 3 national relics and 8 provincial relics. This is an advantage for Phu Quy to both develop the marine economy and develop green tourism. Phu Quy is like a pearl in the middle of the East Sea because in the middle of the vast ocean with clear blue water, fine white sand, colorful coral reefs and quiet space, creating an ideal destination for exploration.
The report of the Standing Committee of the Binh Thuan Provincial Party Committee to the Central working delegation led by Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Hoa Binh recently proposed to build Phu Quy as a special economic zone. Specifically, the Standing Committee of the Binh Thuan Provincial Party Committee reported and asked for the opinion of the Central Organizing Committee on determining the Party organization model in the special economic zone and the number of Party committees, standing committees of Party committees, and deputy secretaries of Party committees of the Phu Quy special economic zone Party Committee for the 2025-2030 term.
The construction of Phu Quy island district into a special economic zone is not simply based on geographical isolation, but also on strategic values in terms of economy, national defense - security and potential for sustainable development.
On April 28, 2025, the People's Council of Binh Thuan province (term XI) held a thematic meeting, voted to pass a resolution, approved the policy of arranging commune-level administrative units, and agreed on the policy of merging Binh Thuan and Dak Nong with Lam Dong. In addition, the Provincial People's Council also passed a resolution to establish Phu Quy special zone on the basis of merging Long Hai commune, Ngu Phung commune and Tam Thanh commune, the administrative - political center is located in Ngu Phung commune, with a natural area of 18.02 km² and a population of 32,268 people.
• TA DUNG - ECO-TOURISM HIGHLIGHT
Ta Dung Lake in Dak Som Commune, Dak Glong District, Dak Nong Province, part of the Dak Nong UNESCO Global Geopark, is one of 61 potential locations planned by the Government to become a national tourist area in the 2021-2030 period, with a vision to 2045. National tourist areas are identified as important nuclei to attract investment in a concentrated and effective manner, thereby creating driving forces for tourism development in regions and localities and playing an important role in building brands and images for destinations.
In the report of the Standing Committee of Dak Nong Provincial Party Committee presented to Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Hoa Binh, it was stated that in the spatial development planning of the new Lam Dong province after the merger, the Ta Dung area (Dak Nong) was identified as one of the key areas for eco-tourism development and nature conservation. Although there was no separate administrative recommendation, Dak Nong included Ta Dung in the strategic orientations after the merger as a "new urban - tourist area".
With a water surface of more than 3,600 hectares and more than 40 large and small islands in the middle of the lake, Ta Dung is considered as "Ha Long Bay in the Central Highlands". This area is currently located in the Ta Dung National Park nature reserve, a part of the precious geological and geomorphological heritage of the region.
According to planning experts, if properly invested, Ta Dung can become a highlight attracting domestic and international tourists, contributing to shaping the eco-tourism brand of the new province. In addition to its landscape value, Ta Dung also plays an important role in preserving biodiversity and sustainably developing the Central Highlands after the merger. The development orientation of this area has now been integrated into the overall spatial projects of the new Lam Dong province, submitted to the Government and the National Assembly for consideration in 2025.
At a recent working session with Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Hoa Binh on the implementation of the Project on Rearranging and Reorganizing Administrative Units at All Levels and Building a New 2-Level Local Government Model, Mr. Y Thanh Ha Nie Kdam - Secretary of Lam Dong Provincial Party Committee emphasized that Lam Dong is a place where majestic nature, colorful culture and strong aspirations converge. With Da Lat City as the center, Lam Dong is not only the "heart" of Central Highlands tourism but is also gradually shaping its role as a green, creative and friendly growth pole of the Central Highlands and the whole country.
In the new development phase, Lam Dong province clearly identifies the three main pillars of culture - tourism - trade, which will not only be the spearhead economic sector, but also a creative space to converge intelligence, identity, technology and social resources, creating a breakthrough for the province. Accordingly, Lam Dong prioritizes investment projects in cultural industry, tourism infrastructure, digital commerce, smart cities and high-tech agriculture.
