For example, Apple charges $49 to replace the battery on the iPhone X and earlier, and $69 on most other new models ($99 for the iPhone 14 series). However, it’s worth noting that if you have AppleCare+, you won’t be charged that fee.

So what is AppleCare+? It’s Apple’s extended warranty program that can be purchased monthly or paid upfront for two years. The amount will vary depending on the device and the plan. For example, for the iPhone 14 Pro or 14 Pro Max, the standard AppleCare+ plan costs $199 for two years or $9.99 per month (not available in Vietnam).

When deciding whether to purchase AppleCare+, it's important to consider the potential cost of repairs if your iPhone's warranty lapses (most new Apple devices come with a 1-year warranty and 90 days of technical support).

Another factor to consider is how often you tend to replace your iPhone. If you typically replace your phone every 2-3 years, you should consider purchasing AppleCare+. If you have a longer cycle, you should consider whether the potential repair costs will outweigh the cost of AppleCare+.

In case you want the latest and greatest iPhone that comes with all the cool features that the older models don't have, then you should skip the battery replacement option and simply get a new iPhone.

However, although Apple and retailers still have the option of exchanging your old phone for a new one, this will certainly cost more than replacing the battery.

Although Apple has a "Self Service Repair" program that helps users replace components at home, the cost of renting a tool kit including a deposit is quite expensive and is not yet available in Vietnam.

Android Smartphone

Similar to the iPhone, whether you want to replace your battery or upgrade your Android smartphone depends entirely on whether you want to spend money on a phone with the latest features or save money by replacing the battery.

The cost of replacing a battery for an Android smartphone typically ranges from $50 to $100 depending on the brand, model of phone, and where you get the battery replaced.

This option is definitely cheaper than buying a new smartphone, so consider whether you can live with your current phone for a few more years before rushing out to buy a new one.
