PSG suddenly issued a harsh statement aimed at Kylian Mbappe. |
The club accused the French star of behaving disloyally and causing serious damage to the team during the rift. According to PSG, Mbappe kept his decision not to renew his contract a secret for nearly a year, from July 2022 to June 2023. This caused the club to miss out on the opportunity to sell him for a large transfer fee.
The capital team also confirmed that Mbappe had agreed to give up 55 million euros in salary and bonuses in a meeting with President Al Khelaïfi in July 2023, but then changed his stance.
In the statement, PSG emphasized that the commitments of both parties were clearly established in August 2023. When Mbappe decided to leave for free to move to Real Madrid, his income level had to be adjusted to ensure the financial stability of the club after large investments.
Mbappe’s questioning and denial of the deal, according to PSG, caused the team “significant damage”. The club also denied allegations that Mbappe had been pressured or treated unfairly.
PSG said the French star played more than 94% of the matches in the 2023/2024 season and all professional decisions were in the hands of head coach Luis Enrique, who led the team to the Champions League title.
Mbappe's lawyer, Delphine Verheyden, asked the court to change his client's contract from a fixed term to an indefinite term in order to receive higher compensation. PSG immediately rejected the request, saying it had "no legal basis" because professional player contracts are always fixed-term, regulated by French sports law.
The hearing took place at the Prud'hommes Paris Council, with legal representatives from both sides present. PSG had tried to block the trial, arguing that the criminal court and the labor court could not handle the same case, but the judge rejected the request. After considering the arguments of both sides, the court will issue a verdict on December 16.
In a statement, PSG claimed that Mbappe had “abused his trust” and left the club in a difficult situation for a long time. The capital club said that the player had enjoyed “special” conditions during his seven years in Paris and now only asked him to “respect the commitments he made”.
The legal battle between the two sides, which had been simmering during the time Mbappe was preparing to leave PSG, has now officially exploded. While Real Madrid has kept quiet, French football awaits a verdict that could reshape the relationship between the club and its superstars in future contract disputes.
