Boxer Naoya Inoue became the absolute champion in 2 weight classes after defeating Marlon Tapales.
Naoya Inoue - the boxer dubbed "The Beast" of Japan - became the absolute champion in two weight classes. He achieved this feat after defeating Marlon Tapales in the super-bantamweight (55kg) class.
Naoya Inoue spent the first two rounds probing his opponent. After realizing Marlon Tapales' weakness, Naoya Inoue switched to an offensive mode, continuously pounding the Filipino fighter, forcing him to defend.
In round 4, the match seemed to be over when Naoya Inoue knocked Marlon Tapales to the ground. However, after 7 seconds, the boxer was still able to get up and continue fighting.
Inoue vs Tapales in a super-bantamweight title fight.
Marlon Tapales's stamina was so formidable that the fight dragged into the 10th round. Here, Naoya Inoue rushed in with consecutive combinations. His punches went through Tapales' head gloves, causing the boxer to be knocked out.
Naoya Inoue became the second boxer to capture the WBA Super, WBC, IBF and WBO titles in two weight classes. Previously, Terence Crawford achieved this feat when he defeated Errol Spence in July at welterweight and dominated the super lightweight division in 2017.
However, Inoue achieved the feat in a shorter period of time. Last December, he took his fourth belt in the bantamweight division.
Inoue also extended his winning record to 26-0 in the super bantamweight division, with 23 of his wins coming by knockout. That's why he was nicknamed "The Beast."
Inoue's knockout percentage is second only to Gervonta Davis in the lightweight division. The American holds a record of 27 knockouts out of 29 wins.
The boxing world is waiting for a fight between Naoya Inoue and Gervonta Davis despite the difference in weight classes. Floyd Mayweather said: " I want to see him fight Gervonta Davis at catchweight. That would be a terrible fight. I would love to see him fight in the US, random blood and urine tests ."
