Two weeks before the April 30 holiday, the atmosphere to celebrate the Liberation of the South - National Reunification Day was bustling on many streets and shops in Hanoi . In particular, coffee shops quickly "caught the trend" of the big holiday with many creative decoration styles, taking the theme "Independence - Freedom - Happiness".
At 11am, under the scorching early summer sun, Nguyen Thi Ngát (born in 1991) traveled more than 10km from Me Tri to a coffee shop decorated with red flags with yellow stars at the Diplomatic Corps villa area (Bac Tu Liem) to take photos. Arriving at the shop on a weekday, in the middle of the hot noon, she was surprised to see a large number of customers sitting tightly packed. “I woke up early in the morning to buy flowers, put on makeup and rent an ao dai to come here to take photos. The brilliant atmosphere with red flags with yellow stars moved me, feeling the spirit of the holiday approaching very soon,” Ngát shared.
At this coffee shop, the combo “independent tea - freedom cake - happiness flavor” is the highlight of the April menu. Many customers choose this product to take photos and post on social networks.
Sharing with Tri Thuc - Znews, Nguyen Thi Hoai Ninh (35 years old), owner of ChiNi Tee & Coffee, said that since the end of March, the shop has started decorating according to the April 30 theme with the main color red, using the image of the national flag as a highlight. All decorative items such as flags, teddy bear shirts with the red flag and yellow star, printed newspapers, hand-held flags... are all prepared by hand, specially designed and loved by customers. The shop owner revealed that the cost of these decorations is very cheap, but brings high efficiency in terms of effect, helping the shop become more known.
"The shop wants to spread the spirit of patriotism in a gentle way, close to the youth. The Vietnamese motto 'Independence - Freedom - Happiness' is expressed through each drink and piece of cake." Ninh added that to have the red tiramisu cake with yellow star like the current one, the shop tried it 10 times before choosing a satisfactory recipe.
Since “dressing up” for the holiday, the shop has welcomed three times more customers than usual. Especially on weekends, the shop has had to refuse customers many times because of overload. On peak days, the shop serves nearly 1,000 drinks, of which the “independent tea - free cake” combo accounts for about 70%.
Not only in the Diplomatic Corps area, many other cafes across Hanoi also quickly joined the festival atmosphere. At Tree Bee - a 4-storey cafe in West Lake - in the midday sun, there was still a long line of young people lining up to take photos with the flower wall with a map of Vietnam. The wall used more than 3,000 flowers with a red background, the image of the country in yellow stood out in the center.
Dieu Thanh (born in 2001, from Hai Duong ) learned about the restaurant through social media and took advantage of a day off to go to Hanoi to check in. "The flower wall with a map of Vietnam and a red flag with a yellow star is really touching. I found it worth it even though I had to stand in the sun for more than 30 minutes to take a photo. Looking at the photo, I feel like I'm immersing myself in a part of the national story," Thanh confided.
Not only does Tree Bee have impressive photo angles, it also launched a new menu such as watermelon and pineapple juice, decorated with national flag images. According to the representative of the restaurant Tran Viet Duc, since the beginning of March, the number of customers has increased sharply, the restaurant is often overloaded on all 4 floors. About 70% of customers order drinks in the April 30th themed combo because they are both beautiful for taking photos and easy to drink.
In the Old Quarter, Ro Coffee (Hang Ma Street, Hoan Kiem District) also welcomes hundreds of visitors every day in a space filled with red and yellow stars, the flag of the National Liberation Front of South Vietnam, and hand-painted paintings on the theme of Independence Day. The owner, Trinh Nga Trang, said the number of visitors these days has doubled compared to normal, especially crowded on weekends.
In addition to the decoration, the shop also created a creative menu with drinks named “Independence”, “Freedom”, “Happiness” made from familiar ingredients such as watermelon, pineapple, oolong tea, coffee… but cleverly colored to remind of the national flag. Trang said: “We want customers to come to the shop not only to drink coffee, but also to feel the holiday spirit through small details. Each image, each drink has a purpose, to evoke emotions and pride”.
Linh Huong (23 years old, Ba Dinh) commented: “Drinks and cakes are normal, but when combined with the holiday and decorated with national colors, they suddenly become much more meaningful. Shops like this make the holiday atmosphere more bustling, closer and more lively for young people. A beautiful photo associated with the national flag is also a way to express patriotism in modern times.”
