One of the popular eateries frequented by locals is Bé Liêm Clam Rice Restaurant, located on Nguyen Cong Tru Street in Hue City.
As a casual eatery, Bé Liêm restaurant doesn't have a large or luxurious space, but it's airy and clean. The cooking area, where rice is prepared and broth is simmered, is located right next to the dining tables, allowing customers to enjoy their clam rice while watching the owner prepare the food.
The key differentiating factor is the quality of the ingredients. The clams are carefully selected from clean waters, ensuring freshness. Each tiny clam is meticulously prepared, preserving its natural sweetness and leaving no fishy taste.
The broth served with clam rice or clam noodle soup is the clam broth, which has a distinctive light green color. The broth is not seasoned, and when eaten, it has a unique clam flavor that is hard to mistake for any other clam rice restaurant.
A bowl of clam rice or clam vermicelli at Bé Liêm is not just a simple combination of rice, vermicelli, and clams, but a rich, multi-flavored culinary experience.
Besides the delicious fresh clams, diners also enjoy them with various raw vegetables, seasoned with the fragrant and distinctive shrimp paste of Hue, and mildly spicy fresh chili peppers… A bowl of rice is incomplete without crispy fried pork skin, mango, shredded banana blossom, peanuts…
Surprisingly, despite the high quality of the food, the prices at Bé Liêm are very affordable. For just 15,000 VND, diners can enjoy a hearty and delicious bowl of clam rice or clam vermicelli.
Besides clam rice and clam vermicelli, the restaurant also serves other side dishes such as stir-fried clams, clam porridge, clam noodles... as well as items like flan (caramel), fresh coconut water... with prices ranging from 5,000 to 25,000 VND.
The restaurant is open almost all day, from 6 am to 7 pm, making it convenient for both those who want a light breakfast and those seeking a hearty Hue-style dinner.
The restaurant's location is also a big plus. It's located at 64 Nguyen Cong Tru Street, Phu Hoi (on the other side of the Perfume River from the Hue Imperial Citadel), near the bustling Vo Thi Sau pedestrian street at night. Visitors can reach the restaurant by motorbike, taxi, etc., and easily access other entertainment venues in the city center.
Ms. Nhan Thanh ( Hue ) shared: "I've been eating at this restaurant for about 5 years now. The owner is kind and hospitable. The service is quick and efficient. It's my favorite restaurant; no matter where I go, the food here is never as good as this one."
Ms. Thanh Mai (from Dong Nai province) traveled nearly 1,000 km from the South to Hue to enjoy the cuisine of the ancient capital. She shared with Lao Dong newspaper after trying both clam rice and clam noodles for the first time: "The flavor is quite unique, a perfect combination of sour, spicy, and sweet tastes. The rice had a little less clams, but the clam soup was quite flavorful. To compare, I would prefer the clam noodles, but I would still give both dishes about an 8/10."
With its rich flavors, affordable prices, prompt service, and airy atmosphere, this restaurant is sure to be a noteworthy stop on any traveler's culinary journey in the ancient capital.
