Approving the detailed planning for the development of land and seaport areas of Ba Ria - Vung Tau (formerly) for the period 2021-2030

According to the plan, the total investment capital demand for the seaport system in Ba Ria - Vung Tau is estimated at about 81,841 billion VND. Key items include renovating and upgrading the Vung Tau - Thi Vai maritime routes, from buoy number "0" to Cai Mep container port area, to receive ships with a capacity of 160,000 to 200,000 tons (equivalent to 18,000 TEU) reduced load or larger.

The Ministry of Construction also proposed upgrading the channel section at the "S" curve, from the upstream of Tan Cang Cai Mep container terminal TCIT and TCCT to Phuoc An terminal, to accommodate 60,000-ton or larger fully loaded vessels. In addition, the channel section from Phuoc An terminal to Go Dau terminal on the Thi Vai River will be upgraded to accommodate 30,000-ton fully loaded vessels.

In the next phase, relevant ministries and branches will study the investment plan to build the Vung Tau - Thi Vai route into a two-lane route, allowing the reception of ships with a capacity of up to 250,000 tons (24,000 TEU), in line with the development process of downstream ports.

According to the plan until 2030, Cai Mep - Thi Vai area is expected to have 60 ports, with 117 to 123 main wharves, with a total length of 28,948 meters to 30,823 meters. This system will meet the demand for transporting goods from 215 to 236.9 million tons and from 2.67 to 2.89 million passengers per year.
