Out of poverty thanks to white horse

People of Na Thi village, Thong Nhat commune take care of a herd of white horses.

In Na Thi village, Thong Nhat commune, 50/60 households raise white horses with a total herd of nearly 200 horses.

Mr. Hoang Van Trong, Na Thi village said: Realizing that raising white horses has high economic value, since 2015, the family has sold all the buffalo herd to invest in buying breeding white horses. Thanks to the family's proper care, the herd of horses grows and increases every year. Accordingly, each year the family sells 2 to 3 horses. From the beginning of 2025 until now, the family has sold 3 horses, bringing in an income of over 70 million VND. In addition to developing breeding horses, the family has invested in a horse glue cooking machine to serve customer needs. Currently, the family continues to care for 10 white horses.

Similarly, Vinh Tien villagers also focus on developing white horse breeding. Mr. Ma Van Dinh, Party cell secretary and head of Vinh Tien village, said: The whole village currently has 80/192 households developing horse breeding with a total herd of over 250 horses, mainly white horses. Thanks to horse breeding, people have an average income of 40 to 50 million VND/year.

According to statistics, the whole Thong Nhat commune currently has over 500 households developing horse breeding with a total herd of over 1,500 horses, mainly white horses; concentrated in some villages such as: Na Thi, Vinh Tien, Na Lai... In order for the horse herd to develop well, people pay attention to care and supplement food; pay attention to disease prevention and treatment for the horse herd; every year the commune government coordinates with specialized agencies to organize 2 to 3 training courses on integrated breeding techniques, including horse care techniques for people.

In addition, the Party Committee and the commune government also directed the specialized department to pay attention to and support people in accessing preferential loans. Up to now, the whole commune has 52 loan projects according to Resolution No. 08 dated December 10, 2019 of the Provincial People's Council on special policies to encourage investment, develop cooperation, link production and consumption of agricultural and rural products in the province in the period 2020 - 2025 and Resolution 15 dated July 17, 2021 of the Provincial People's Council amending and supplementing a number of articles of Resolution 08 to develop horse breeding with an amount of about 24 billion VND.

Ms. Hoang Thi Tau, Head of the Economic Department of Thong Nhat Commune, said: The whole commune currently has 2 cooperatives raising white horses. To create conditions for households to develop livestock, the specialized department has advised the Commune People's Committee to pay attention to supporting breeding horses for the people. Accordingly, it is expected that in November 2025, the commune government will support people with 100 breeding horses, funded from the national target program for sustainable poverty reduction and the national target program for socio-economic development in ethnic minority and mountainous areas. In addition, the department will continue to coordinate and organize training courses and technical guidance for people to improve livestock efficiency.

Believing that, with the initiative of the people and the attention and support of the local Party Committee and government, the white horse breeding model in Thong Nhat commune will develop more and more. Thereby, contributing to helping people increase their income and become rich on their homeland.
