According to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, prolonged heavy rains have caused flooding, damaged many cultural works, threatening the safety of relics, artifacts and antiquities in localities. The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism requested the People's Committees of 4 provinces to direct competent agencies to urgently inspect and review the technical status, assess the level of damage of each relic and museum to take measures to support, reinforce, and strengthen, and promptly prevent the risk of collapse and landslides at important cultural works.
The document emphasizes the need to inventory and assess the preservation status of documents, relics and antiquities affected by flooding and mold to develop urgent preservation plans to avoid irreparable losses. In cases where professional support is needed, localities should proactively propose to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to direct competent authorities to coordinate the handling, ensuring timeliness and effectiveness.
At the same time, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism proposed to strengthen propaganda and guide the community to participate in overcoming the consequences of natural disasters; detect and warn early signs of abnormalities at relics to proactively handle, improve the effectiveness of management, protect heritage and ensure safety for people as well as cultural works in the area.
In the long term, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism requires the People's Committees of four provinces to direct relevant departments and branches to develop a disaster risk management plan for the system of relics and museums. The plan aims to proactively identify, prevent, respond to, and recover from natural disaster risks, aiming to sustainably protect cultural heritage, an especially important factor in spiritual life and local tourism development.
