Mr. L. said he uses e-cigarettes partly because he thinks they "don't affect" his health as much as traditional cigarettes, and partly because he wants to follow a new trend.
After using e-cigarettes for a while, Mr. L. suffered from erectile dysfunction and had to continuously use erectile dysfunction medications. Seeing the situation getting worse, Mr. L. went to the Men's Health Center for a check-up.
Here, Mr. L. was prescribed low-frequency shock waves to reactivate erectile tissue in his penis along with erectile support drugs to maximize treatment. After 3 months of treatment combined with quitting e-cigarettes, Mr. L.'s penis gradually "salutes".

Dr. Vu Duc Cong, Men's Health Center, said that e-cigarettes contain main ingredients such as nicotine, propylene glycol, glycerin, flavorings and other additives. Nicotine is the addictive substance in cigarettes and can cause many harmful effects to health. Propylene glycol and glycerin are humectants and flavorings used to improve the taste of e-cigarettes.
"Nicotine is a strong stimulant that can cause blood vessels to constrict. This can reduce blood flow to the penis and cause erectile dysfunction. Blood vessel health is a key factor in helping the penis to have an erection as desired. Long-term use of e-cigarettes makes the blood vessels in the penis less responsive to erections, so erectile dysfunction medications may be effective at first, but over time they become less and less effective, making the condition worse," said Dr. Cong.
Doctor Cong recommends that smokers who want to gradually quit should not use e-cigarettes, but instead can refer to other methods such as nicotine gum, nicotine patches or other quitting methods.
In addition, to protect sexual health, users need to maintain a healthy lifestyle, including a healthy diet, regular exercise and avoiding the use of strong stimulants such as e-cigarettes.
