The new investment will accelerate the delivery of UAVs to the UK army, navy and air force for use in intelligence, reconnaissance, surveillance, strike and logistics, the Ministry of Defence said, according to Reuters.

"The conflict in Ukraine is a breeding ground for new ways of war and we need to learn and implement those hard lessons," British defence procurement minister James Cartlidge said in a statement.

Mr Cartlidge also stressed that the plan to equip British forces with UAVs was based on lessons learned from the frontline in Ukraine.

UAVs already in use by British forces include the Evolve Dynamics Sky Mantis and the Reaper MQ-9A, used by the Royal Air Force for surveillance and strike missions.

UAVs are cheap to produce and can monitor enemy movements and drop bombs with high precision.

The British government said it had donated 4,000 drones to Ukraine. UAVs are believed to be playing a key role in the nearly two-year-old Russia-Ukraine conflict, with both sides trying to gain the technological upper hand, according to Reuters.

Ukrainian Air Force spokesman Yury Ihnat confirmed on February 22 that Russia has launched 4,630 UAVs and more than 8,000 missiles at targets in Ukraine since Russia launched its military campaign in Ukraine on February 24, 2022, according to Reuters.

Mr. Ihnat also said that Ukrainian air defense forces have shot down 3,605 Russian UAVs and that UAV hunting teams are taking down most of the UAVs flying into Ukraine.

Also according to Mr. Ihnat, in the latest attack on the night of February 21-22, 8 out of 10 UAVs launched by Russia were shot down in the sky of 4 regions of Ukraine.

There is currently no information about Russia's reaction to the above statement of the Ukrainian Air Force.
