According to information from the People's Committee of Tu Mo Rong district (Kon Tum province), on December 10, the People's Committee of the district will coordinate with the Ho Chi Minh City Biotechnology Center to organize the "Conference on Ngoc Linh ginseng - Vietnamese ginseng from historical, scientific and practical perspectives". The conference will open up great opportunities for the development and promotion of Ngoc Linh ginseng, contributing to soon turning this plant into a national resource as expected by the locality.
"The seminar on Ngoc Linh ginseng - Vietnamese ginseng from a historical, scientific and practical perspective" will have 3 parts. In the discussion section, experts and researchers on ginseng and medicinal herbs will directly answer questions from all interested parties. Experts who have accepted to attend the ginseng seminar include Professor, Doctor Nguyen Minh Duc, Head of the Department of Medicinal Herbs - Plants (Ton Duc Thang University); Professor, Doctor Tran Cong Luan, Principal of Tay Do University (former Director of the Ginseng and Medicinal Herbs Center of Ho Chi Minh City); Doctor Nguyen Hai An, Director of the Biotechnology Center of Ho Chi Minh City.
The district received 50 questions from reporters, businesses, cooperatives, and Xo Dang ginseng growers. These questions were screened by the district's professional department to avoid duplication, then arranged into groups to be sent to experts ready to answer at the workshop.
The questions expressed the desire for experts to answer about how to grow and care for ginseng to prevent it from getting sick; how to increase the value of ginseng; determine the value and content of Ngoc Linh ginseng, Lai Chau ginseng, Panax notoginseng and other ginseng species; solutions to expand ginseng acreage; measures to build Ngoc Linh ginseng into an international industry; and prevent profiteering of Ngoc Linh ginseng.
In addition to the submitted questions, the district also widely informed all local people to attend and directly ask questions to the organizing committee. Many Xo Dang people in ginseng growing communes registered to participate in the workshop. The district arranged enough tables and chairs for people to comfortably sit, listen and interact with professors and doctors who are ginseng experts.
"This is an open workshop, meaning that anyone interested can participate and ask questions to the organizers. The fact that the Xo Dang people proactively sent questions to ginseng experts shows their desire and aspiration to learn techniques to grow ginseng sustainably, thereby escaping poverty and getting rich thanks to ginseng," said Mr. Vo Trung Manh, Chairman of the People's Committee of Tu Mo Rong district.
People give up their houses to guests attending the conference.
In addition to hosting this ginseng conference, Tu Tho Resettlement Village was previously chosen to host the International Medicinal Herbs Culinary Competition. Explaining the decision to choose this village as the venue for such important events, Mr. Vo Trung Manh said that the village is a symbol of the Xo Dang people's overcoming difficulties. From being heavily affected by natural disasters, the village has risen to become a beautiful village, loved by tourists.
The fact that the village was chosen to host important events has affirmed that, with solidarity and trust in the government, the village has overcome difficult times, ready to take the lead in taking on great responsibilities to join hands in building and promoting the revolutionary land of Tu Mo Rong.
At Tu Tho Resettlement Village, people are eagerly awaiting the workshop. The Xo Dang people have supported the organizing committee by cleaning the roads, decorating the workshop grounds, arranging parking spaces, and decorating tourist attractions in the village.
Mr. A Bu (Head of Tu Tho village) said that the village has 164 households. Of these, 70% of households participate in ginseng cultivation. In the village, there are not many accommodation facilities, so many households are willing to give up their houses for guests to stay at the seminar. On the day of the seminar, ginseng-growing households in the village will temporarily put aside their farming work and come together to the seminar to listen to professors share their experiences and techniques in caring for and growing ginseng, in order to apply them back home.
"For me personally, the current difficulty in growing Ngoc Linh ginseng is that the ginseng is prone to root rot. I will ask experts and ask them for preventive measures. Hopefully the answer will solve the problem I am facing," said Mr. A Bu.
In Mang Ri commune, Tu Mo Rong district, people were also ready to come to the workshop to ask questions to experts.
Mr. A Chung (Dak Don village, Mang Ri commune) said that on December 10, he will drive to attend the conference. He is currently very happy because he will meet experts to ask questions related to the development of Ngoc Linh ginseng.
"I plan to ask the experts whether and what type of fertilizer should be used so as not to affect the quality of Ngoc Linh ginseng. In addition, currently, many people do not know the value of Ngoc Linh ginseng, so they say it is more expensive than other types of ginseng and tubers that have similar shapes to Ngoc Linh ginseng, such as Lai Chau ginseng and ventricle tubers. Therefore, I hope that the experts presiding over the workshop will clearly and fully announce the nutritional content and quality of Ngoc Linh ginseng compared to other types of ginseng so that people understand that Ngoc Linh ginseng is expensive because it is better than other types," said Mr. A Chung.
Similarly, Ms. Y Ai (Mang Ri commune) said that up to now, people have been growing ginseng in the traditional way. The workshop will invite experts with many years of experience in research, with qualifications and techniques in ginseng care. Therefore, she herself is very happy because this time she will be taught scientific and technological knowledge for growing ginseng. She also said that at the workshop, she will proactively ask for the phone numbers and information of experts so that later, when the ginseng gets sick, she will proactively call to ask about prevention methods.
