Initiatives in building new rural areas in Ha Tinh continue to promote their significance

In the first 5 months of 2025, Mr. Nguyen Dinh Ty's garden of more than 1,000 ^{square meters} in Van Cuu village (Khanh Vinh Yen commune, Can Loc) was always covered with green vegetables, squash, herbs...

The abundant source of vegetables not only helps Mr. Ty's family have a source of clean food on the spot but also sells it to the market, earning an average of 100,000 - 150,000 VND per day. In addition, he also uses by-products from vegetables to raise chickens, pigs, etc. Combining model gardening and raising animals brings Mr. Ty's family a total income of about 100 million VND per year.

The cool green model garden space brings quite good economic efficiency to Mr. Nguyen Dinh Ty's family (Khanh Vinh Yen commune, Can Loc).

Mr. Nguyen Dinh Ty said: “Previously, our garden was surrounded by many mixed plants, the cultivation area was small and had no economic efficiency. In 2021, implementing the commune's policy on building new rural criteria, receiving support of 10 million VND from the State and labor days from the people, we successfully built a model garden. Since then, the model garden has brought us a good income, a more stable life."

Also in Khanh Vinh Yen commune, for the past 5 years, thanks to the successful construction of a model garden, the family economy of Mrs. Tran Thi Cuong (residing in Luong Hoi village) has improved a lot. “Building a model garden has helped my family earn an income of 100-120 million VND/year including combined livestock farming, compared to before, the income has increased about 6-7 times. Building a model garden not only brings economic benefits but also helps the living environment become greener and fresher” – Mrs. Cuong shared.

Up to now, the whole Khanh Vinh Yen commune has built 214 model gardens, with an average income of 40-60 million VND/garden/year. The combination of model garden economic development and livestock farming has helped many households have a good income and a stable life.

Ms. Tran Thi Cuong (in Luong Hoi village, Khanh Vinh Yen, Can Loc) is excited when the squash grown in the model garden has a good harvest and good price.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Hieu, Chairwoman of the Women's Union of Khanh Vinh Yen commune affirmed: "The construction of a model garden not only brings economic benefits but also contributes to fulfilling the criteria of "a family without poverty" in the movement to build "Family of 5 no, 3 clean" launched by the Women's Union".

Not only in Khanh Vinh Yen commune, in Can Loc, the construction of model gardens has also been widely developed, contributing to improving the quality of the new rural construction movement. Up to now, the whole district has built 1,300 gardens, the model gardens have been and are promoting their role, bringing economic efficiency to households.

In Thach Ha, the construction of model gardens in recent times has also helped many households become more prosperous. One of them is the case of Mr. Le Hong Van's family (in Tien Chau village, Thach Chau commune). Mr. Van and his wife have been doing business in Thach Chau town for decades. In 2021, responding to the policy of eliminating mixed gardens, developing household garden economy, and building model gardens in the movement to build new rural areas, Mr. Van decided to "leave the city and return to the countryside" to build a model garden.

Thanks to the contributions of mass organizations, Mr. Van renovated the abandoned garden of ^6,000m2 , borrowed capital to invest in irrigation systems, land preparation machines... Of which, ^1,000m2 was used to grow bananas and lychees, ^1,000m2 was used to grow grass, ^2,000m2 was used to grow vegetables, the remaining area was used to build barns to raise chickens for meat, eggs, goats, cows...

From a wild garden, Mr. Le Hong Van's family (in Tien Chau village, Thach Chau, Thach Ha) renovated and built a model garden and combined it with livestock farming, bringing in hundreds of millions of VND per year in income.

With his constant efforts, after 1 year, his garden began to generate income. Currently, with the rotation of vegetables and fruits such as: squash, bitter melon, sweet potato leaves, Malabar spinach, cabbage and fruit trees; a flock of 150 egg-laying chickens, a flock of 300 meat chickens/batch (3 batches per year), a herd of dozens of goats/batch... bringing in an income for Mr. Van's family of 250 - 300 million VND/year after deducting expenses.

“Building a model garden in particular and developing the household economy in general has helped our lives become more stable. From an unstable business life, we are now confident in producing and have a stable income right in our home garden,” said Mr. Le Hong Van.

The chicken flock of Mr. Le Hong Van's family (Thach Chau, Thach Ha) is about to be sold.

Mr. Nguyen Van Sau - Vice Chairman of Thach Ha District People's Committee said: "Although from 2022, according to provincial regulations, the model garden support policy will be temporarily suspended. However, realizing that the implementation of the model brings many economic benefits to the people, we advocate continuing to encourage people to build and promote the role of model gardens in building new rural areas. Up to now, the whole district has built 922 gardens with good income, contributing to the development of household economy, constantly improving the quality of life for the people".

Building model gardens is a content in criterion 20 - Building model residential areas and model gardens to evaluate communes meeting NTM standards, which was created by Ha Tinh and started to be implemented since 2015. After more than 10 years of implementation, up to now, Ha Tinh has built 1,218/1,512 villages meeting the standards of Model NTM Residential Areas, along with tens of thousands of model gardens.
