Six players of Ba Ria - Vung Tau Club received a total of 38 years in prison for match-fixing.

On May 9, the first-instance trial of the gambling and gambling organization case by the People's Court of Ba Ria Vung Tau province sentenced 6 players to a total of 38 years in prison.

According to the verdict, Le Bang Gia Huy (born 2002), Nguyen Son Hai (born 1994) and Pham Van Phong (born 2004) received 8 years in prison; Nguyen Quang Huy (born 2004) was sentenced to 7 years in prison; Nguyen Khanh Duy (born 2003) to 4 years in prison. Defendant Tran Ky Anh (born 2004) received a 3-year prison sentence but was given a suspended sentence.

The indictment stated that on December 22, 2022, two days before the match between Ba Ria - Vung Tau Club and Da Nang Club in the 2023/24 National First Division, players Gia Huy, Son Hai, Van Phong, and Quang Huy met to discuss and agree to play below their strength for the purpose of betting.

These players then participated in football betting on an online betting website. The total amount of money the group of players participated in betting was more than 65 million VND.

As a result, Da Nang FC won against Ba Ria - Vung Tau FC with a score of 3-1. After the match, player Son Hai received 8 million VND in winnings, Gia Huy and Quang Huy each received 13 million VND, and Tran Ky Anh received 4.6 million VND. Van Phong alone did not successfully participate in the bet because he could not deposit money, but asked Son Hai to do it for him.

In addition, two days before the National Cup match between Dong Nai Club and Ba Ria - Vung Tau Club on November 24, 2023, players Gia Huy, Son Hai, Quang Huy, Van Phong and Khanh Duy continued to discuss fixing the match score to earn money for personal expenses.

Gia Huy contacted a person named Quan (whose specific identity is currently unknown). After meeting in Dong Nai, the group of players agreed to arrange the match according to Quan's instructions from the stands, with each person receiving between 25 and 30 million VND.

As a result, Ba Ria - Vung Tau Club lost to Dong Nai Club with a score of 0-2. After the match, each player received 24 million VND from Quan as agreed.
