The price of 'king' durian has fallen dramatically.

Recently, in Ho Chi Minh City, Musang King durians have appeared more and more but their prices have continuously decreased. According to Nguoi Lao Dong newspaper, at high-end fruit stores, the price of this item ranges from 250,000-300,000 VND/kg, down 50% compared to 2 years ago, while at durian farms, the price is only 150,000-200,000 VND/kg due to "a large number of imported goods".

Mr. Nguyen Van (Bu Gia Map district, Binh Phuoc province) said that recently, many gardeners have cut down Musang King durian trees because it is not economically effective to plant Ri 6 or Dona varieties.

"Previously, Musang King durian was 2-3 times more expensive than popular domestic varieties and still profitable, but now the price has dropped and we're losing everything. Because growing Musang King durian requires difficult techniques, low productivity, and high cost," this farmer shared.

Farmers 'struggling' as commercial eel prices drop sharply

A few years ago, according to Tin Tuc Newspaper, the model of raising eels without mud in cement tanks in Kien Giang province developed strongly and brought stable economic efficiency to farmers thanks to the high price of eel meat, from 150,000-180,000 VND/kg.

But from mid-2022 until now, the price of commercial eel has continuously decreased and remained at a low level, reducing profits, and some farmers have even suffered losses.

In the past two years, the price of eel meat has been only 85,000-90,000 VND/kg, and at times even dropped to 75,000 VND/kg. Currently, the price of eel meat is half of what it was at the beginning of 2022 (90,000 VND/kg).

In contrast to the price of commercial eels, the price of feed for this species is constantly increasing. Therefore, it is very difficult for farmers to make a profit and most of them reduce the scale and raise them moderately to avoid losses.
